It's a very common trope in shonen. It's very rare to find a character who does something without also living up to their father's or father figure's legacy. Naruto wants to be Yondaime 2, Luffy wants to grow up to be Shanks... japanese people seem to have a slightly stronger belief in "dogs don't give birth to cats" and "it's in his blood to be like that" in general.
