2. I love how Karin is kinda pissed off and kinda sad that she understands exactly how Sakura feels. moments of empathy are PRRT, but karin not WANTING to understand and being rarrr that she does is love.

13. ... yep, it was "we've decided to kill sasuke" all along. Shock. Can you guys imagine that some people hadn't realized that yet? srsly DX

So then a page of flashbacks, where Sakura reminds herself that this is HER task, she can't burden Naruto with it. Then tinysakura seeing sasuke and going squeeee, and team seven, and then a flashback of sasuke telling her thank you after her love confession.

14. So then she stops with the kunai an inch from his back. *"I thought I could do this..."*

I kinda like this, actually. I never thought she could bring herself to kill Sasuke, always assumed that even if she got to try, at the last second she'd stop. Tadahh. What really pissed me off was that she didn't even get a real fight out of the deal when it looked like Kakashi was going to get one, but, while he did get to use ONE technique, which is still more than her see-through lie and her friggin' kunai, he didn't get a real fight either. So it's not totally horrible. (just quite frustrating.)

sasuke: D: !!! *CHOKES A BITCH*

15. kakashi: *weak from mangekyou* *wobbles!*
sasuke: *steals kunai from sakura! >8(*

16-17. Naruto: *BARGES IN TO SNATCH SAKURA UP*

Naruto: *STARES AT SASUKE OVER HIS SHOULDER, CHEEK BLEEDING FROM SAKURA KUNAI >:(*

sidebar: "team seven is assembled again! but what is naruto's answer?"

reminder, the question was "what to do about sasuke." He said he'd decide when he saw him again, and he sees him again while he's about to kill their other teammate. seems like a foregone conclusion he'll drop in the towel and go for his blood, because clearly sasuke is unsalvageable now.

This is the ultimate hurdle Naruto has to clear to accomplish his goal of getting team seven back together. The last test to his resolve. It's beet tested by enemies, by sort-of-allies, by his peers and both sensei, by his teammate, he even had fleeting moments of doubt himself. So even if he gets pissed, even if they fight now, even if for a while he loses hope and lets disappointment and rage take over, ~~madara will intervene to save sasuke's ass because he's already got too much of a handicap for a lifechanging beatdown~~ "drop sasuke" won't be naruto's definitive answer.

(therefore there HAS to be something still good inside sasuke, he'll redeem himself, and i still maintain it's very likely an external influence is making him MUAHAHAHA all over the place. he never used to be so unhinged. he's the cool-smirking-when-i-win type when he's sane, remember)

Oh, and there's no way this fight won't get interrupted. u.u; They can't have a proper conversion to narutoism if naruto doesn't come in as the underdog who only wins because he has a better nindo and moral strenght and determination, who cares about those 40544984521 devastating jutsu he doesn't know, bitch, and sasuke is wayy to exhausted for that shit. He even lost his hold on susanoo, while naruto is still mostly fresh.

I was kind of disappointed that Sakura didn't get to do more, but Sakura never gets to do stuff, so...

But at least now it feels like we're getting somewhere with the manga. For the past year and a half or so it's felt like Kishi has been rushing through to get somewhere. Ever since Jiraiya died it feels like the plot arcs haven't been really developed. I think maybe he was excited to get to superawesome Team 7 reunion? Or am I getting my hopes up?

On a random note, if you google Naruto adultfanfiction, your profile comes up fourth on the list. And you wonder why everyone thinks you're a pervert.

Frankly, I was glad she stopped as well. I never thought she could do it and I didn't WANT her to do. I just wanted her to ACTUALLY PUT UP A FIGHT and PUNCH HIM AT LEAST ONCE >_>:;; But it's little consolation that Kakashi didn't get much of a fight either.

I think it's impossible for Naruto to give up on Sasuke now. I mean... Naruto let Pain go, after Pain had 1. killed Jiraiya; 2. demolished his village; 3. killed (sort of) Kakashi + 3984743 other villagers/ninjas. And Naruto DOESN'T EVEN HAVE BONDS WITH PAIN beyond the book Jiraiya wrote with his name in it. There's no way he's going to give up and decide killing Sasuke is the way to go.

Kakashi's right, the good is still inside him, he's just looking at it through the wrong lens. I'm torn between how I'd feel if he was being exterior influenced, because that absolves him of some responsibility and 'makes everything okay' but at the same time, you have a point, he's very unhinged. Maybe subconsciously he needs this extreme reaction to justify his extreme actions and intents.

The metaphor is a good one (and I agree with your color choice!). The only problem is that Madara's mask is orange too. I think Sasuke'll be painted orange whichever way this turns out. :(

I will admit, I was a little bummed that Kakashi's ... uh, fight? moment? whatever was interrupted so quickly. I mean, yes, Naruto has to come save the day. It's his manga and all, but there are other people already there who are(were) important to Sasuke. For once I would be quite okay with a scene being dragged out a little further before convenient timing no jutsu. And I totally wish Sakura had more time, but I have to admit, what she had was more than I expected tbqh. I'm glad she tried. I'm even glad she stopped herself. I just wished there had been a little more time between that and Naruto swooping in to save her. *shrugs*

All in all, I'm pretty happy with where this is going. Like you, I'm waiting 'til later to see lay judgment on Sasuke's sudden shift to the dark side. :3

If anything, the last two chapters have kind of cemented the idea that I've had since the beginning of the manga that Sasuke's problem is unresolved survivor's guilt. That's why he was so obsessed and willing to do anything to get revenge - it's the only thing he was able to cling to to cope with the fact that he lived while everyone else died. In essence, he wanted to kill Itachi as an apology to the rest of his family for not being good enough to die with them (remember the "logic" Itachi gave him for not killing him? Being too weak to be worth killing). Now that he knows the truth he feels even worse about being left alive and he's just grasping at straws to give himself meaning again. And I'm pretty sure Madara knew about this and was counting on such a reaction, considering how blunt he was about revealing the truth and how everything-short-of-camp he is in aiming Sasuke at people/places like a well-primed weapon.

hum, i never thought of his problem in that light before. i always just thought the trauma had unhinged something, and then being left without a strong adult figure to help him cope as a child plus the fact that all the crazies seem to want to mess with him is why sasuke snapped. but, actually, i think the survivor's guilt angle explains a lot.

I really only thought of it since I've been developing a video game character for about four or five years now (which is still before I really got into Naruto. I'm a late bloomer) whose primary Character Foil is survivor's guilt. Of course, said character takes hers in the opposite direction of Sasuke's and throws herself into the metaphorical darkness to punish her parents for their perceived abandonment, but the basic principal is the same.

If this manga goes on like that more, I fear toons of Naruto fans will start a psychologist carreer. *lol*

i actually really like sakura and karin in this chapter. I think they have the most powerful moments. I agree, the moment of identifying with sakura's pain and then the resentment of that from karin was perfect. i actually am starting to like her, where before i wanted to smack her every time she showed up.

and sakura was the only one acting ninja-ish in the whole chapter. ninja do not run head first into a fight going "hay, look at me! i'm going to attack you but first i'm going to let you know about it! surprise!" like kakashi is doing. she was sneaky! i think she came the closest to killing/beating sasuke out of every one because she was smart about it.

naruto just needs to have sasuke kiss and make up already. no more riding the crazy train to batshit city.

I squeed a bit myself, over the title. Finally! The buildup to this has been so strong it was in danger of lapsing into annoying.

Lots of agreeing with you over page one :). Kishi did us some fan service there, finally balancing out the Sasuke/Sai with some Sakura/Karin.
Also agree with the idea that this can't be the decisive battle between Naruto and Sasuke. The battle would be too unimpressive for such a long-awaited one.

IMO, Madara is working his magic on Sasuke. You know, the one he wants to work on the entire world by the end of this? He's obviously strong enough to use that technique on a distraught teen.

Oh well, my new theory is that if Gaara was Naruto's metaphysical double, then Pain was the same for Sasuke. (there are tons of parallels to be drawn between them, obvious enough that I won't go into a rant about it).
Thus, Naruto already symbolically defeated Sasuke. It's proof that it can be done. Now he just needs to repeat that performance while dealing with his own emotions and resent towards someone who personally betrayed him - it's practically a new take on the whole "learn to forgive" theme.

I hate it when I see ways the characters could have won that they didn't use or try. For example, couldn't Kakashi have ended the fight with the Mangekyou by manifesting his 'black hole no jutsu' technique inside Sasanoo and attacked Sasuke directly? And wouldn't it have been smarter to Tsunade punch him instead of trying to stab him? He wouldn't have been able to block that. And if your worried about moral quandaries in killing him, you could always Tsunade smash his arms and legs instead.

I'm digressing. It was still a great chapter.

Incidentally, I have to say I'm extremely upset at Sakura's betrayal here. I know she's hardened her heart and is determined to do what she has to, but that's no excuse to betray her love and affection.

Hinata's tits deserve better than to be abandoned for the first floozy that comes along. Karin no doubt has a lovely chest, that's not in question. But Sakura had committed herself to a set of boobies already, and she shouldn't be cheating on them, even if its to get information out of the enemy.

Sorry for all the posts. One final, closing thought. I'm not worried about Sasuke trip to loopyville. Naruto will bring him back. I mean...Naruto beat the crazy out of GAARA for crying out loud, and Sasuke is going a little la la right now, but he ain't got nothing on the frothing pile of Batshit Insane our little sandin used to be.

Hey, somewhat off topic, but distantly related: what the hell ever happened to Kabuto and his crazy Orochimaru face? Is that still a loose end or has it come up somewhere in the chapters I've missed? Also, are we 100% sure Sasuke eradicated ALL of Orochimaru from inside himself? Not to cheapen his insanity and excruciating inner pain, but I think I'd kinda like that as a relevant factor in his actions. Something to soften the blow as it were.

we got a reminder of that plotline when sai and yamato were chatting with anko about tracking him down, but then yamato had to hurry home because naruto had gone eight tailed. Fair bet he's gonna pop up again at some point, but since that moment, no appearance. then again in manga time it's been, what, two weeks at most? I have no idea, but it's a short enough time. Maybe not even a week.

as for eradicating orochimaru, itachi did it and i think he'd be more thorough than sasuke would. XD have we seen sasuke go curse seal again since then? Or use orochimaru's faster healing? I can't remember.
