... I caved.

1. Madara: "Guess that's as far as Sasuke can go." I love seeing little signs that he... not exactly underestimates him, but doesn't have really a "omg sasuke is always so cool gasp he cannot lose" thing. He knows Sasuke is tricky and strong for normal people, but as far as Uchihas go, he's not especially impressed. Or more like, impressed like an olympic performer can be impressed by his little cousin's college-organized races. XD

2. Danzou, Danzou, never lecture an enemy while he's still alive.
"go meet your brother and let him lecture you" ... waugh. That would still be a happy ending! XD

3. Sasuke: I SEE YOU WITH MY ATOMIC FLOWERGAN
Madara: You're right, Danzou, Sasuke's haxx is still way below Itachi... u.u

4. "Itachi will have to settle for YOU today". Haha, I can just see him, looming over Danzou. SO HEY HOW ARE YOU LONG TIME NO SEE SINCE YOU MADE ME KILL MY CLAN. *happy thoughts*

6. Huh, I feel silly for not noticing that Danzou did keep checking his eyes to make sure they were still open. I kinda assumed they all had a set time and he just had to be aware of how long it had been... ohh, Sasuke, so that Itachi illusion was to test out the theory! I love how methodically he fights -- that reminds me of him testing the ground and the effects of lightning on bombs against Deidara. Also preparing the terrain for kirin against Itachi... now of course I want to see him so desperate and furious that he fights blindly without having time to plan, but I'm sure that'll come later. *__* (it was pretty shiny when he reached the end of his rope against Itachi and then he was all "... UM. KUNAI? DO THEY WORK? SHIIIIIIIT *blue screen of death*")
I don't remember if they said, is he sacrificing the eyes in turn or could he have reopened them later on? I'm not sure if they closed because they were tired or because they were emptied of Uchihajuice. Hmmm. >__> I guess if Kakashi could reuse his again and again (after yet another trip to the hospital... XD)

7. Madara: nanana Danzou is a wannabe~

Man, but he seems so used to going all vampire on her ass. ... Sexy, sexy. Though i'm not sure if her face was an orgasm-face or just a AAH FUCK IT HURTS face this time around. Sasuke, did you forget the foreplay. You cad. D:

Oh, there were so many weird translations here. One of them calling Karin Sasuke's favorite? (I had a flashback to the "sakura i don't know you that well and i have no reason to give a damn but i can already tell in reality you..." moment, I swear) XD But from the several translations I checked it seems it was more like Sasuke having chosen her as a partner/teammate because she's useful, which we already knew, and apparently Madara approves of that.

Still kinda cheeses me that Karin is a useful tool but not an active participant in the story. I want to see her do shit to impact the storyline, apart from being used as a commenter, chakra detector and healing device. ... then again lots of boy characters also have limited uses. But the trend, aaaaah.

Danzou: ... what? he out-haxxored me? But I have the ArmEyeballs and the FaceShoulder and he only has two eyeballs of his own! THAT'S NOT FAIR! CHEATIIIIING

I dunno what the fuck happened there. Maybe Sasuke bled from the eye so much it finally made him blind. XD
Karin: *hostage* NOOO HE'S OLD AND UGLYYYY
Oh right, Sasuke's eyes are black again. Except shaded gray, so that gives them a not quite right expression.
Madara: Oh, this is the good shit. ...damn, I'm out of popcorn.

12. Oh man, I love this convo.
Sasuke: "all that talk about self-sacrifice and you take a hostage." sounds like he disapproves. yay moral higher ground.
Danzou: "It's not to save my own life. I can't die yet. The Leaf needs me... the world needs me. I'll do whatever it takes to survive. I'm the only one who can do it... the only one who can change things. This girl is just a small sacrifice." 1) Danzou has high self-esteem! 2) Danzou has Conviction. 3) no matter how misguided he might be, Danzou is still thinking of the good of his people (i'm not sure how many of them would agree with him over what "good" is, but actually considering the current political/war climate and the country's history, I don't think everyone would disagree with him.)

Karin: "Please Sasuke... save me/help me."
Sasuke: "Karin, don't move a muscle."

Alright. Observations.

1) It's not too far ago that Sasuke flashbacked to Team seven smiling at him and then went and risked blindness/death to save Karin's life. Now he's willing to kill her just like that? Huh. I don't know exactly when things changed, but it was after Killerbee. Then karin started making observations on how Sasuke's chakra had changed, was colder/more evil, started seeing monsters looming behind him etcetera.
2) That gloating HAHAH YOU DED NAO expression? Kinda NOT SANE. If those expressions don't prove he's not in his right mind at the moment... Actually it reminds me a little of Itachi's >8DDDD crazyface.
3) Madara being all FUFUFU. >__> *suspicious at his satisfaction coupled with his lack of surprise*

I think Karin is just as dead as Hinata was, or Sasuke against Haku, or... you see what I mean. Karin being smaller than Danzou, I don't know how their hearts would be lined up so conveniently, and mangakas like to make their critical injury'd people spit blood even when there's no reason to, so that's not really proof she got killed. She can probably fix herself, being a healer and all. Also I don't think Sasuke asked her not to move so he wouldn't risk missing Danzou's heart -- I think he could have aimed right anyway.

Do I think Sasuke is innocent of everything? No. Karin doesn't need to die for Sasuke's action to be seen as heinous.

He has some attenuating circumstances, and something is clearly wrong with him. But he can still visibly think for himself, even when he's influenced, and I don't care that he probably could aim just right to make sure Karin survived, Karin was asking him to save her. She was scared. She didn't agree to being used like this. I can agree that there was likely no other solution -- save for allowing Danzou to run off, where he might (MIGHT) have killed Karin anyway. But Sasuke wasn't thinking of Karin. He was thinking of revenge, and of Itachi. If he thought of Karin's safety (I think he did, but), it was an afterthought. He doesn't look grimly relieved/determined when he gets Danzou; he's gloating and talking to Itachi.

He was under the effect of the curse seal in the Forest of Death, but when Sakura tackled him and asked him to calm down, he was able to realize what he's been doing and calm the fuck down. Here, I don't care how influenced he was, using Karin like this -- he should have been able to pull out of it, at least enough to say "Sorry, Karin" beforehand. There are some lines you don't cross.

Do I think that's it, he's irredeemable now? No.

Do I think he's better apoligize and show he's honestly sorry and doesn't know what the fuck he was thinking at some point? Fuck yes. (or at the very least he's excused à la "I was clinically insane due to X outside factor". That would be fine too.)

Do I trust Kishi to make his redemption come off as believable? I'm not entirely sure yet...

But I still think that of course Kishi is going to stack the deck against Sasuke, otherwise where's the payoff when Naruto saves him. But Naruto can't save him if there's nothing left to save and he's TRULY, no-remorse evil now, therefore there's still good somewhere in him. Somewhere. Deep down. (frrrgh.)

The problem now being, is it going to look like an ass-pull... I dunno.

I still love that bitch. But I'd love it if Karin went "You've changed, wtf happened to you, I'm not following you around anymore" too. Or at least some other negative consequences. He was supposed to take care of his comrades! Abandoning Juugo and Suigetsu to be captured, stabbing through Karin -- that's just not on, Sasuke. >:( Bend over for your spankings now.

Train of thought the other day... "hmm, if Sasuke wants Karin to forgive him, he'd better crawl a lot. A good start would be to allow her to bite him so she can heal herself, if she can do thatHOLY SHIT IT WOULD BE HOT."

i think Madara did something to him. We know that Itachi rigged Sasuke's eyes to freak out if Madara tried to use the Shiringan on him, but that was only meant to happen once. Nothing is stopping Madara from messing with Sasuke's mind after Itachi's failsafe got used up. And it would explain why Karin thinks there's something wrong with Sasuke. It's not like it'd be hard to do, the kid was practically catatonic when Madara first spoke to him.

Madara, or Aloevera-guy, or there's a theory that it's Juugo's cell infusion that tipped the balance -- yeah, someone did something to him. Though I think if Madara did do it when Sasuke was still catatonic then it needed a long time to build up to reach critical mass... Hmmm. I kinda think it happened later, but then again it's just a gut feeling, so... Hm.

But aaaa I want to KNOW FOR SURE already DX DX DX

I'm of the camp that this was Sasuke's awesome planning powers, and Karin is totally fine, albeit a bit resentful...

She spat blood, I don't think she isn't injured at all.

I'm sure he planned to try real hard not to kill Karin, but my real problem is with the fact that she didn't consent to being stabbed through, and while Sasuke obviously wouldn't have sacrificed her life for real, his main objective there wasn't saving her from being taken away and killed by Danzou, but killing Danzou. It's a dickish thing already but if he had looked grim or serious!determined as he did it, instead of BWAHAHA DIE ASSHOLE, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I'm kinda thinking her healing extends to her body as well, but that's the Sasuke-apologist in me.

Though I do think Sasuke's being set up to Die Dramatically at the end of the series... because he can only be an asshole so many times before he Is Past The Point of No Return.

I really don't think Sasuke is going to die, or only the way Gaara did -- being revived at the end. Naruto's great goal is to have team seven reunited and laughing together again, and a "yay sasuke you redeemed yourself in death, let me tell your grave everything about my hokage adventures" sounds bittersweet at most and very much like the failure Kakashi would probably like his kids not to repeat. Mind, he's probably gonna come very close to death but just watch how well the guilt of not saving a teammate worked out for Kakashi, and when you consider team seven is the team that's supposed to get it right... I'm not worried about that.

Also, Sasuke's expressions kept reminding me of Gaara's creepy smiles, more than Itachi. >.>;; ....Or perhaps Light Yagami.

PS - After watching Haku's perfect-harmless-placement-of-senbon trick, and that Jet Li movie Hero where the main character had this stabbing technique to avoid all vital organs and leave the person alive, I have total faith that Karin could be alive. *nod*

yup, the crazyface made me think of Gaara, too. Not to mention the whole "talking to that dead relative I have a homicidal, needy, betrayal-laced relationship with and whom I kill for".

Seriously, why do people insist to believe that Sasuke will turn out irredeemable? Every sign/shonen rule/Kishi hint points to Naruto dramatically saving his ass. Naruto's entire character description is based on him not giving up on just such seemingly impossible tasks.

Have people forgotten the little Konoha Gakuen manga episode, where we get a sort of summary of the story, but placed in real-life Japan? (Kishi's own AU). And what happens at the end? Allow me to quote:
"Naruto... you're the only one... just you, my only.."

"Sorry I kept you waiting, Sasuke"

You know, it's funny. Reading these as they're released, I found myself getting really, really mad at Sasuke and his shenanigans, but a month or two ago, I started rereading from the Itachi fight. Reading it all back to back like that, it really loses its impact, because well, right here he... blah, blah and suddenly it doesn't seem like he's fallen so far after all. I found it interesting anyway. (and it made it MUCH easier to write that winter exchange fic, cause damn, that was giving me problems like whoa.

But yeah, he's been an ass for sure. I do hope he gets some kind of consequences for this or at least acknowledges it, and the issue doesn't get swept under the rug and forgotten about later.

I think that Sasuke telling Karin to stay still was Sasuke-speak for 'don't move and you will live through this.' Truly, I think Sasuke is thinking quite clearly. Saying 'Sorry, Karin' would let Danzo know that Sasuke is planning on hurting her to get to him and would give Danzo time to move and avoid the strategic hit that Sasuke is planning.

By telling her to stay still, he is creating the illusion that he is willing to negotiate with Danzo for her release--telling her to stay still will be perceived by Danzo as a superior officer telling his subordinate to cooperate with the hostage taker--while he is, in actuality, telling her to stay still so that his strike doesn't kill her by accident.

Logically, hitting a stationary target at close range is much easier and much more likely to succeed than trying to hit a rapidly moving, dodging target. By holding Karin hostage, and Sasuke telling her not to move, Danzo is not struggling to hold her and is now standing perfectly still.

The problem is, we don't actually know what the Sharigan is. Where does it get its power? What is the nature of the bloodline? The darker the mindset of the user, it seems, the more powerful the Sharingan becomes.

It could be influencing matters, the way the cursed seal supposedly did back in the day.

Although I do suspect a "No vital organs were hurt in the puncturing of this Karin" message in the next issue. Not that that really absolves anything, mind you, but I don't think he just up and killed her. Well....maybe not. I continue to half-hope Sasuke is not as big a gullible idiot as he seems to be and kinda 'play-acting' for Madara here, who clearly wants him to be Mr. Evil Sue for whatever reason. But who knows.

I'd also like to take a moment to address a topic of extreme concern to me.

How is it this statement could be made and not a one of you, neither Asuka or her assorted minions, has made even one joke about this. You know, something like 'heh...yeah....Sasuke took his revenge through Karin's body, alright. He totally plunged further into true darkness....over and over, faster and faster, until she couldn't take no more. Then, since he was still craving some more revenge, he went and fought with Naruto, he took his revenge from behind, once again plunging into the steamy heart of true darkness. And then he found Sakura and had all the revenge he could stand with her. Then he found Ino and had a little more revenge. Then he convinced Ino and Sakura to have some vengeance with him at the same time. After that it wasn't hard for the three of them to get more revenge on Naruto, and then the whole lot of them got their revenge on Karin. And before you knew it, there was a huge orgy of revenge happening. Because Sasuke is an Avenger, and that's what he does. And let me tell you, revenge is freaking sweet."
