I was laughing my ass off at "multiclonage" XD Nontheless, they were nice and didn't do (fan)dubs ^^

[identity profile] chibirisuchan.livejournal.com 2009-07-08 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
XD You're looking for "shikkari shite" -- which I will grant the fansubbers *literally* means "pull yourself together," but in terms of what it's trying to get across is a LOT more like "hang in there!" (with a heavily implied "don't die on me!") So yeah, the "I'm missing half my torso"/"pull yourself together (you slacker!)" version is much less contextually accurate than the "I'm missing half my torso"/"hang in there (and don't die!)" version.

I don't know why more fansubbers don't use the "hang in there" translation, because I've never seen a case where it wasn't more contextually appropriate than the "get a grip" / "pull yourself together" version that usually gets used instead. But then maybe I just speak too much actual English. :) (It's always struck me how obvious it is that a lot of fansubbers working in English have a native language that is neither English nor Japanese, which means there's got to be three way translations going there...)

also, I like your summaries a lot more than I like the actual series. :) The "Asuka Explains It All!" segments are both faster to read and MUCH more entertaining than what I've seen of the manga (admittedly maybe 3-4 pages here and there, but still. Your recaps rock.)

Wow, that may have just made me a bit of a NaruSaiNaru fan.

*dies of jealousy* Gah, I wish I understood French! Or that I was better with Japanese.

[identity profile] ktoth04.livejournal.com 2009-07-06 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Did it get released in france or something? o.O

[identity profile] ktoth04.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
aaaah, was it a full showing or just the preview?

[identity profile] ktoth04.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)

Lucky (insert letter)itch. I've never been able to afford to go to a con. I hate that. So much special stuff to see...

Yes, is NaruSai cuteness! I'm all "d-awwwwww!" Luvin' it!

Cute pair but would never work, I think. Sai is too emotionally stunted. But it's nice to dream... *wanders off into Sai-induced daze*

[identity profile] chibirisuchan.livejournal.com 2009-07-08 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
(psst - sign on as a staffer. :D Most big cons give you free room, board, and food for working staff for them. ACen's recently had to start charging $20 for the weekend's food for staffers, but that's still 9 meals for $20 which is pretty hard to beat...)

WELL HELLO THAR NEW MOVIE 8D

[identity profile] nekokriszty.livejournal.com 2009-07-07 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
OMF overload XD lol, thank you! I can see that this movie will be just as good (sarcasm) as the previous ones were. XD

I don't know which was funnier- watching Sakura lay a smackdown on Naruto or the crowd cheering and laughing when she smacked him around. :DDDDDD Hooray for watching a foreign clip with another foreign languaged subtitles!

[identity profile] hardcoreheathen.livejournal.com 2009-07-08 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'm disappointed at the continuation of the "humorous tsundere beatdown" shtick, but other than that the movie looked like it could be good.

Still want to know why Sai was flying up there by himself, what mission they abandoned to help him, and what the freaky monster things are. Using leaves to attack a Leaf Ninja? Perhaps they have uncovered the deadly Irony Beast!

Ugh. I took french in college....I should know this. But I didn't follow it. Why did naruto get slapped across the rock face after asking if Sai was ok? Sakura can be a...harsh with Naruto, but I've never seen her consider worry over the welfare of a comrade as a punchable offense.

Hey there (this is DaitaiOtonashiiOokami on ff.net), and I used to lurk your journal a looong time ago, but just stumbled upon it again. Mind if I stick around and comment every now and then? I much more active on LJ now, and I know I used to really fangirl you.

I have to say, your translation of sorts was the best. I only took one year of French, so I only got the basics (although yours was much better than the actual).
