I love Kakashi's awareness of politics, and Naruto's complete shock -- obviously he never even thought Sasuke being declared as a missing nin to be killed might EVER happen, oh Naruto -- and Sakura's instant "I'm going to see Danzou!" determined face. I like how Naruto reacts with disbelief and she... believes it but still won't accept it. It's so THEM. XD
2. Sakura: "I can't stand by and let this happen!" Naruto: "I won't let him lay a finger on Sasuke!" nnnngh. ♥♥♥♥♥
And then there's people out here who say it's obvious Naruto and Sakura's character arc involves letting go of their stupid, blind attachment to evil!Sasuke -- and even that they've already started to let go. Where?
Hell, they'll become missing nins themselves before they let that happen, and I don't know what manga anyone who doesn't realize this is reading. I understand wishing they would drop Sasuke, because yes he's hurt them a lot and done a lot of bad things, but believing it's actually gonna happen... Do they realize how much that would DESTROY the both of them, to have to accept that the Sasuke they knew and loved is dead and never coming back? Shit, but they'd go looking into resurrection-style forbidden jutsu before they allow that. It's not over until Naruto says it's over, and he's the most stubborn bastard in the solar system.

Does it mean the jounin as a whole have veto power over the daimyo's choice? Which would only make sense because it's a ninja job and the hokage isn't a subordinate of the daimyo but. Ohhhh YES. I can get behind that. I can get behind it and love it long and hard. Yesssssss.

4. YESSS WE GET A SAI AND/VERSUS DANZOU SUBPLOT. *flails* The EXPRESSION on Danzou's face when Sai questions him about what he plans to do about Naruto... Oh hell, that's a "... I see. You're compromised." face. Oh Sai, shit, I really hope you don't trust your superior too far because... well. Shit. The second you said that you became twice as disposable as you were -- as if asking for permission to stay on Kakashi's team before hadn't pinged Danzou as suspicious already! Perhaps he only assumed Sai was going to be distracted from his goals by all those new feelings and interactions, but now he has clear proof that Sai might actually go against orders for Naruto. He might not do anything with the knowledge right away, but at some point I'm ready to bet he WILL. He's not going to forget that.
5. and, Danzou starts reassuring Sai and being all reasonable and convincing, which is only proof that he doesn't trust Sai to be an obedient, uncaring little weapon anymore. And if he can't trust Sai to do as he's told instead of using his own judgment then ... ouch.
"With the vote coming up, this is a critical time." ... AHA. Confirmation of what Kakashi said. Also if he still needs to look good and wise and popular, that's confirmation he's not Hokage for good yet! This makes so much more sense.

The action of putting a seal in there just resonates as very... personal (for the characters XD), in a way, more personal than a seal or tattoo on the shoulder or even a bite on the neck. I'm aware it's a personal kink/squick and beside as far as we know the seal slithered in there on its own with no one needing to touch Sai's tongue in any way. I really like how even now Sai still strongly believes that what Danzou does is a necessary evil. The best thing is that he might be mostly right. Even though Danzou has also demonstrated that his own self-interest and ambition have as much importance to him as the village's welfare, it doesn't mean he has done nothing that truly needed to be done.
Sakura: "Then why did he go back on Tsunade's promise?! He's planning to kill Sasuke! >E" Oh yeah, she's totally emotionally detached from Sasuke and only care about him because NARUTO cares but if it were up to her she'd give up alright. -__-. Man but there are some fantards I wish I could kick in the ass. There are a lot of arguments for a developing Sakura=>Naruto bond that don't rest on the destruction of every single feeling of worry and care in the Sakura=>Sasuke direction, for fuck's sake. I hate that mentality, that the only way someone can like someone new is if they realize everyone else they thought they cared about they really didn't or they completely regret it and now despise the previous person. I think it's my biggest pet peeve ever, seriously.

XD be faster, Naruto! at least she didn't eat the cliff...) ...Then Karui elbows Cloneruto in the neck/head! oooh I like that woman. *__*

(Anonymous) 2009-06-19 11:35 am (UTC)(link)For example: if this weren't shounen manga, the honorable way for Sakura to deal with Danzo's taking over of her master's position while Tsunade can't stop him would be to assassinate Danzo and then commit seppuku. (it's bushido, people, just the same code of rules that forced Sasuke to sacrifice his happiness for revenge)
Also, that mental image you gave me of Sai getting his seal shall haunt me for a couple of days. Now I just think of him as they guy who TOOK IT.

Good point about the self-sacrifice ideals.
What would also be a MUST would be that Sakura's feelings are presented as bad for her. But apart from hurting when Sasuke left, they weren't. He prodded her into training and reevaluating how she treated Naruto, she managed to be assertive enough to point out his own faults right back, he gave her some encouragements; his being gone prompted the whole apprenticed to Tsunade thing and even now it still motivates her to be brave and determined in battle. It's never been shown as affecting her character growth negatively. Sure, Sasuke being gone hurts, but umm. One might assume the angst would *stop* when he's *brought back*.

I had forgotten about team from Cloud. Good to see them again, and yay! ^.^ they aren't doormats! (I was a bit disappointed that Team 7 learned about Sasuke's new employer before they met up with him again. I was kinda expecting them to have a sort of stunned silence when they meet up again.)
