Also, yay for team Gai, but srsly I'm sad the one closeup panel was for Tenten and not Neji, because I liek Neji better [/shallow] I mean because he has more of a personal stake in Hinata's wellbeing. I hope Team Gai stick around and get some srs screentime. *__* also it would be nice if tenten did something. apart from stealing neji's paneltiem i mean. because he's hotter, y'know. but yay for moar tenten.

Um, there's a flashback to Gamabunta telling them about the attack? XD There wasn't enough paneltime to show their O_O faces over seeing it; since we see them first around hinata of course they're gonna concentrate on her first.

The pessimistic part of me says that the last panel was on TenTen because Kishi is going to do the All-Kunochi-Are-The-Team-Healers thing again. (Not necessarily Medic Nin, mind you.)

I think the translation is a bit weird there. because "it's not fatal but it could be"... More like "It hasn't killed her yet but it will if we don't fix it soon" IMHO. >__>;; Bit of a contradiction otherwise? I was under the impression that either something is fatal or it isn't... But I'm gonna pretend that either Pain really didn't care to kill her on the spot and thought that her spending a few minutes dying would make Naruto more broken, or Hinata somehow dodged a little bit at the last second. >__>

I did find it strange that Pain didn't... cut her throat or something. Seriously, a powerful and supposedly efficient killer just stabs someone? Dude, punctures can sometimes be healed. Make the death a sure thing! You have no reason not to! In no way am I actually advocating someone off Hinata, I'm just criticizing the villain's idiocy. Again. I don't buy that he actually cared...

Ugh, I can't like Hinata. There's no real REASON for it, and I feel awful and petty, but I just can't. Especially when I'm deprived of even the SLIGHTEST hint of Hyuugacest, which is, like, the only situation in which I find her interesting. I saw the whimsical picture of her on the cover, and my kneejerk response was, "Really? We haven't had enough of her lately?" DAH. This NaruHina thing is going to be a long ride for me.

Everything else - YES. Aw, Naruto all worried about what he did to the village, then so relieved he cried. We've gotten so much lovely angst this battle.

Pain, you are so dead. You wasted shell of a man. Naruto's gonna find you and....okay, you're probably gonna die on your own, but still.

Now if Team Gai could just find KAKASHI's body so Gai could cry some manly rival tears...

I understand how you feel about Hinata. I waver between "cute, like a puppy *pokes to see it squeal*" and "... yeah sorry I was watching Sakura and Ino and Temari." Theoretically she should interest me more than she does; it's not that she's shy or meek or soft-spoken and I like the cute and the self-improvement determination and the boobage! But the combination lacks spice for me; her "trying to make herself braver" is a laudable goal in theory but... just bland. Goody-goody. Most of Hinata's faults -- being too shy and too easily walked on -- tend to hint at "silent, noble martyr". Instead I see "victim" and "mopey", which, yes, unfair when I read the acual text and I know that, but it's still my first impression. And even though we've been told she's been working to get over it, for me she hasn't managed to shake it off yet... it's all been offscreen so I haven't seen enough ot her determination and inner fire to get truly interested. Also, she's never going to get another battle scene ever again at this rate. Fuck. I like bitches, damn it.

Anyway, my opinion on her is that I like her -- in small doses. She's cute, but just not fascinating and complex enough to hold my interest much longer. My being okay with eventual naruhina has more to do with how it would make Naruto happy. But then again Ino or Karin or Tenten would make him just as happy -- still haven't seen why he'd want Hinata specifically, instead of "cute girl who loves me and acknowledges my real self." It better be coming, Kishi. >__>

I feel a little bad for it, because I don't begrudge the girl her love for naruto, and i'm happy that naruto would get with someone who loved him unconditionally when everyone else thought he was nothing but a noisy idiot, but I'm glad she's so minor a character it'll almost all be offscreen, and I foresee a few "hinata died in childbirth! woe! i suffer! please teammates of mine, comfort me in my hour of sad sexy angst!" in my writing future.

As for Hyuugacest, I love the idea of it, I love the hyuuga clan exploration and I love the personal dynamics between Neji and younger-cousin-who-is-shy-and-weaker-but-outranks-him, I just... can't read Hyuugacest. Because the Hinata part doesn't interest me. And she draws out none of Neji's fire and his interesting snappishness or haughtiness, or if it does, then he looks like a bully and then it turns into stockholm syndrome or those depressing stories where everyone is perpetually locked into unhappiness and that's supposed to be romantic.

So... yeah. Unless I get bunnies specifically for it, I'm either not gonna write canon compliant, write alternate timelines where she never confessed, or find nice, respectful ways of getting her out of my post-manga end fics.

And, i'm getting really tired of waiting about kakashi. Hnnnn. >(((((

EXACTLY. It's like...everything's there to make a really likable character, but somehow, when put together...it consistently fails to catch my attention.

That's the other thing. There hasn't been enough of Hinata being awesome for me to really feel for the character. She has tons of potential - and if she'd been doing awesome things like throwing herself into the line of fire for Naruto's sake this whole time, I might feel differently. But she was dropped after the chuunin exams, and now I almost feel like it's too late. Even if Kishi takes some time and makes her awesome, I've fallen so far in love with the rest of the characters that it's hard for me to look at time spent on Hinata as anything but wasted. Arg.

I hate feeling like that, because I know lots of people love her and want her to get more page time and development, but I just want her to go away. Or have sex with Neji. One or the other.

Haha, me too. When I'm totally honest with myself, I'm mostly annoyed that, if she ends up with Naruto, I'll have to deal with her in canonverse fic forever more. There's only so many ways to (respectfully) write her away.

Gah. Kakashi needs to wake up or be, like, buried-in-the-ground-Sandaime-type-funeral confirmed dead. I'm losing all patience for that.

...Hmm. Hadn't noticed Team Gai not being around. I'll have to go back and read again. Also: TenTen is the weapons specialist, right? But don't all shinobi get basic med training? You know, emergency field care? It just seems to make sense that Tenten would know a little about how to diagnose a ninja's physical status. Neji would make a better medicnin than Tenten would. Just because of the Byakugen. But he also has some pretty good control over his chakra; he'd have to in order to create the Chakra barrier (I forget the real name.) And yes I agree, more Neji screentime!
A bit off topic, but Neji is a good character,but I wanna see some Gaara. Where is he while Akatsuki is attacking Konoha? You'd think he'd want at least a piece of the acton. Ah well, I'm sure Kishi has reasons for the absence of Gaara since the beginning of Shippuden. Miss my poker faced sand-man!

I'm not quite sure, but due to past experiences (with Naruto and other series and book stuff), I have a feeling that Naruto's answer to everything is that he is going to forgive Pain/Nagato.
