And another fic I've been meaning to pimp for ages, even though it probably REALLY doesn't need it:
Embracing Dreams by Arigatomina.
Naruto and Sasuke and Kakashi and Iruka are mutants (think X-men). Naruto lives with Iruka, Kakashi pretends he's Sasuke's Designated Responsible Adult, they eventually pair off with their usual counterpart. Should be booooring, yes? At the very least, mildly entertaining plotless shippy stuff.
AHAHAHAHA.
I would marry this fic if I could, and the fact that I don't even mind the random sideshipping of KakaIru should really mean something. because. KakaIru? I would only read Risu's and Maldoror's. Ever. And I find the incredibly convenient "everyone is gay and the adults and the kids pair off in tandem, aww" to be the height of ridiculousness.
I repeat, I would marry this fic if I could. It has so many shiny things.
1) Really appropriate and fitting, yet imaginatively explained, mutant powers
2) Same thing for Sasuke's backstory
3) The characters are REALLY IC and REALLy interestingly written
4) which should be 1) OMG KYUUBI. This is how I wanted Teamwork!Kyuubi to be, I think. OMG OMG OMG. *__*
5) Damn sexy making out
6) doesn't hurry up everything just for the sake of hooking them up.
7) Naruto and Kakashi both care for Sasuke in their own way... And neither of them is Always Right because they somehow Know Sasuke's Mind Best. He knows his own mind, thaaaank you.
8) The SasuNaru/NaruSasu balancing act is niiice to watch.
9) ... even the kakairu is funny, damn it.
10) SAKURA AND INO AND KIBA JUST ARRIVED YEEEEESS.
Minuses:
1) It's still a WIP.
2) ... it's still a WIP?
3) It's still a goddamn WIP.
Counter-minuses:
1) Lots of it to read before you get to the end of what's written so far,

Doooo it!!! If the KyuNaru/Sakura scene is so far away then maybe you could write something set in the elsewhere. Like what if KyuuNaru went after Sakura instead of Sasuke in the forest from the earlier parts of Teamwork?

I also like your Saki-chan fics more than I probably should as a straight male with no prior experience with yaoi. You're just that good.
You've actually inspired me to try my own hand at Naruto with a story I call People Lie. It's not my first fic by any stretch of the imagination, oh no, heh. I've been around, and I think I'm pretty good by now. Still, it is my first Naruto fanfic, and it's heavily inspired both Teamwork and Saki-chan. It's definitely not Teamwork redux, I've got my own thing going on.
I know you don't know me and you certainly don't owe me anything, but I thought I'd stop by and tell you how much you've inspired me. I'm really curious to see if you would like/be interested in my fic. I hope you don't mind.
Starts off looking like it should be a Naru/Hina, except it's not, really, and as the story progresses Naruto works on Sasuke, trying to, essentially, recruit him as a follower/powerful ally rather than just a teammate. Nothing is ever simple or easy, though, especially not in my fics. Sasuke ends up more of an actual friend than even Hinata, who is supposed to be in love with him, and while he has a growing attraction to Naruto in ways he can't really define, Naruto will give him anything he wants because he's just as emotionally messed up as Sasuke. For various reasons, most notably that she's easy to manipulate, Naruto is also in the process of setting Sakura up with Sasuke as a way of simplifying relationship issues. But Sakura has an iron will at her core, and that's arguably more attractive to Naruto than Hinata's devotion, OTOH, Hinata's has been everything he's needed her to be. Relationships are one thing, but it's a big, mean world out there, and it really is trying to get you.

I'm about 80000 words into the fic and have about 10k more I haven't posted to fanfiction.net yet, but I only started the story last July.

I have a question for you though, and it's based purely out of curiosity
and because I love your rants/justifications, but why don't you like KakaIru? I know there's no proof for them, but there's no real proof against them either. And as long as the author BUILDS a relationship for them... I'm just curious and this is not an attack or a bash or anything like that!!Thank you and feel free to ignore this if you wish.

ilu too XDOkay, it's not like I hate the pairing, but... well.1) I like Kakashi as a mentor to the kids, and perhaps as the sole survivor member of team Yondaime; I really don't care about his love life. Also, despite the porn -- perhaps even because of the porn -- he seems to really not be that interested in sexing up real people. For me he has no active libido, and I'm really not interested in reading about his love life.
2) Who's Iruka again? No srsly I know he's supposed to be super-important to Naruto but... We almost never see him. I admit that i'm glad Naruto has someone to luv him, but even Konohamaru is more visible than Iruka is. And I find him kinda bland. His character concept is interesting enough -- previously school clown grown teacher, smiling but with a temper -- but around Naruto recently he's been nothing but a passive "ooohh", "ahhhh" spectator. He has no relevance at all to any of the plot past chapter 2. Character concept's okay but the way Kishi uses him bores the hell outta me.
=> Neither of them grabs me enough to make me want a character-centric fic on their sole merit.
3) the only positive proof I really see for them to get together is they're both adults and unattached. Which is a bit, um, yes, no? And I find their only interaction to be devoid of personal chemistry -- there was a brief snag over team seven that Iruka lost and kakashi never seemed to care much about it once he laid down the law, and apart from that they don't even seem to know more than each other's name. It's fine when people build over that, but I get annoyed when every other fic assumes that because they're both adults, they were best friends/best enemies since birth zomg -- adults =/= same age group! D: Not only is Kakashi older, but he was out of the academy when iruka was barely out of toddlerhood. Get your canon facts straight ppl. XD
Which is really not enough to make me actively dislike the idea of the pairing. Hell, I like Naruto/Ino.
But I hate how somehow sasunaru means kakairu has to pop up in parallel too. it reads like one of those stupid romance movies where lol the girl's daddy and the boy's mommy get married and then the kids want to date, or the other way around. might be a fun plot device to center a fic once or twice. When it's not even a plot point, just here for the hell of it, no reason, no real exploration, just convenient "i'm gay and my father figure is, too, and surprise, we pair off with our designated counterparts"? ewwww no. It's horrible writing. Like Iruka and Kakashi just plain cannot support their dearly loved charges Naruto and Sasuke in their terrible trials of getting together if they aren't also experiencing the same thing? It cheapens their support, too. What's strongest, "I'm not gay, but i fully accept that this is part of who you are and i will love you and support you regardless of who you are" or "I will support you! But mostly because you're just like me"? Nrgh.
Anyway kakairu is a crack pairing, and I have no problem with crack pairings as long as they're being written by people who stay IC, and possibly give some sort of insight into why/how they're together. As a fanon-regulation background prop, I do not want, and do steer clear of those fics.
My exposure to the pairing mostly comes from the sasunaru fandom though. I'll read them by chibirisu and Maldoror because they could write Iruka/Gaara/Pakkun and make me go WOW, but srsly I really don't care enough about the characters and their sex lives to look for kakairu fic.

I'm writing an ItaShika fic right now (don't ask, Itachi just started poking me with that "..." face of his and wouldn't leave me alone) and I'm being DAMNED careful that there is a REASON behind the pairing beyond "we're hot geniuses, let's go fuck".
Crack is good, crack with plot and proof is better. Thanks for explaining, my curiosity is much satisfied now. ^_^
As for Arigatoumina's stuff; may I say that sometimes it's creepy how much our fanfic liking evolution parallels? I loved DBZ and GW, with a side of Ranma 1/2, and would read anything that looked interesting. Now I pretty strictly read Naruto and want PLOT above all else. Does that sound slightly similar to you?
