Naruto manga 387

Firstly:

I've discovered that part of my loss of enjoyment to the manga can be blamed on the spoilers. I don't read the spoiler translations anyway because without a picture they're just too easy to misunderstand. But the spoiler pictures are almost always THE most pivotal thing to happen in the whole chapter. So I get to see them with no buildup of emotional connection, and I'm all "oh, that will be shiny to see in context" except when the context arrives, there's no surprise, no shock, no emotional response -- I already know what happens and so my reaction is more like "ho hum" than "omg!"

So yeah. No more spoilers for me, because they really do spoil it.

now let's see how long I manage to hold my infernal curiosity on a leash.

-I'm actually rather okay with Sasuke becoming a mini Kakashi. One because it would make Kakashi relevant again (wtf anything he's done so far could have been done by Convenient Godmode Yamato, and probably better too) and he could teach the kid how to cope (though he never had to cope without one eye, just with a new, weirder, one) -- or maybe Kakashi could give Sasuke his own eye -- maybe Sasuke would get the mangekyou then, since Kakashi grew it somehow already XD It would bring Sasuke back in Team Seven's sphere of influence and I'm more than fine with it. It could also bring Sasuke to need Sakura to heal him! He's got no mednins on his team.

Or maybe he manages to dodge and he's just scratched up. We haven't seen it yet after all. Srsly who the fuck stays still when someone's attempting to pluck out your eyes. D;

I'm not sure I like the way Kishi's art is evolving very much -- things aren't as pretty, wrists and waists are thicker, heads smaller, it's lost a lot of the originality and raw strength of its beginning. It's still nice, though, just... not as prettiful. Oh well, i'm not reading it just for the art. >.>

I really need a better Uchihacest icon. >(

Love your reactions on this chapter. You made me feel a little better. Personally, I was rather freaked out by the ending. Sasuke's my favorite character and all, and I stupidly put my heart and soul on him. So if he comes out anything LESS than okay, it's going to have a bad effect on me. You've reassured me quite a bit. Though I'm still anxious. >>>.<<<
And I was thinking about that line, "Forgive me." . . . He's just so full of shit!! First he says "Hate me," then he says "Forgive me?" Furthermore, "Forgive me, because I'm going to steal your eyeballs?" o_O But I guess if he's crazy. . . . yeah.

I'm actually secretly hoping that it was actually Itachi screaming because Sasuke did something with the fact that Itachi's only pining two limbs or something.

Yeah, the fuck is that, one punch to the stomach paralyses him so much he can't even turn his face away, yeah right. DX

Got to remember that Itachi is quick as fuck and he seems to have Sasuke beat (slightly) in that department.

Personally, I think Sasuke will lose one eye and get away before Itachi can take the second one. This seems a bit contradictory compared to my first sentence, but I doubt Kishimoto will make Sasuke blind; that just doesn't make any sense.

Then Sasuke can collapse and have someone find him all dramatically :D

Yeah, but when something tries to get at your eyes, it's instinct to flinch away, just like someone tries to knee a guy in the balls -- they might be slow otherwise but I guarantee they're not slow about jerking back and curling up defensively. I srsly doubt he can plunge his fingers in and tear it out faster than Sasuke can go OHSHITOWW*twitch!*, especially since the manga seems to show him being deliberately slow and freaky. It's so melodramatic that he would stand totally unmoving. But then if he moved he might damage the eyeball or something, so maybe Itachi's got him frozen up... >_>;;

Good point. I was kind of going along with Kishi slowing everything down because "omg guys we wouldn't be able to see it with our human eyes!"

Everyone seems to have forgotten about the fact that Sasuke can shot lightening out of his entire body. no need for hands or arms or any of that junk. That scream is totally Itachi getting Chidori-ed, i hopes.

It's kinda like how during the chuunin exam, he got pretty damn beat up, but he was still able to fight, while when Itachi came for Naruto, it was pretty much older as soon as he broke Sasuke's wrist. I think Sasuke just shuts down when Itachi gets in a hit, sort of "Oh, shit, he's still really strong," and then he's seven years old again and helpless, and Itachi takes advantage and ~~fucks him until he screams against the wall~~ beats the crap out of him. /psycho-babble ^_^;;

I wouldn't mind if Sasuke ends up like Kakashi in that sense, I don't think. I'm worried that it'll be like in bad-fic, where Sasuke is OMG YOUNGER KAKASHI IN EVERY WAY!!!!!1111``~11!1one I would rather like Kishimoto to make Kakashi relevant again, though, and anything that puts Sasuke back in team 7's sphere of influence is fine with me. XD

So, I'm torn between "Kishimoto, I love you" and "This could go wrong in so many ways it's ridiculous"... *sigh*

Hm, I don't know, why would Itachi use a genjutsu if he really has Sasuke pinned and could be attempting the real thing? Note, i'm still clinging to the possibility that he might not SUCCEED (say, because sasuke's smart enough to turn his face away for example >( ) but mmmmh screams of pain, Sasuke bleeding all over his face... *_*

Mmmh, the OMG!SCREAMOFPAIN does seem to be too much of a give-away, actually.

I mean, if something as important as Sasuke LOSING AN EYEBALL (lol, I cannot help it, every time I say this I think 'CLAMP'! The walling, too... ^^ Come on, Kishi, give us a little blood-licking now!) really happened, I would expect it to happen suddenly and unexpectedly, not at the end of one of the first chapters, with Itachi slowly (well, relatively) and purposefully leading Sasuke to the wall and then carefully plucking out his eye. -_- After just saying he will pluck out his eye. Twice. Naaah, too predictable.

I DO expect some twist on the scene to come next, though I couldn't say what... but even if the twist turned out to be related to something else and Sasuke DID lose one eyeball, well, I'd be fine with that. ^^ Sasuke would still be sexy, Kishi could never stand to draw him not-sexy. ^o^ And it would be cool and dramatic to have him win the fight without an eye, not to mention, Team 7 cuteness most certainly to come!

On another note, anyone else thought Sasuke's face looked really strange in the big panel where Itachi first places his fingers on his face...? His LIPS. Kishimoto has never drawn Sasuke's lips like that, only Sai's, Madara's, Madara's brother's and... uh, Yamato's? I'm not sure. But NOT Sasuke's. I was pretty weirded out, it didn't look like him at all. O_o

Actually, I think if something that important happened, Kishi would harp on it as long and as dramatically as he can reasonably stretch it out. He does it a lot. XD Like when Asuma died, he had to make him survive long enough to have his last words instead of the more brutal "dead now, oops" on the spot. It's just not his style.

I do think there will be a twist on the scene because we haven't seen itachi actually take out the eye, so as far as we're concerned maybe it's not going to happen somehow!

What I meant was more that Kishi wouldn't spend so many pages LEADING to the actual plucking, but that he would do it unexpectedly to shock his readers, and THEN he would draw out the torture/death scene/whatever. It seems more like his style. Though you might be right, of course. ^^

The upper lips-lookalike white segment IS only his teeth, but the lower one isn't. *shrugs* It just looks strange to me, I thougth it might be a flashback to Madara's brother at first.

I think he included it to help us make that connection. The only reason I can think of for why he'd disfigure Sasuke like that.

I really think that scream is Itachi's, and either Naruto came in and NINJA!Rasengan'd him, or Sasuke did something funky to cause Itachi much pain.

And if Sasuke really does lose an eyeball or three? Wow, that's some major step-up from the Sasuke god-ownage. And some major Itachi god-ownage.

Personally? I don't think the Mangekyou can really be transferred between users. Because that's OBITO's eye. Obito did not kill Kakashi. Kakashi, however indirectly and unwantedly, killed Obito. So it has to be Kakashi's Mangekyou, not Obito's. And why is Itachi trying to take a non-Mangekyou Sasuke-eye if he could transfer the Mangekyou? In my theory, he just needs a fully-formed Sharingan.

But Kishimoto will prolly prove me totally wrong and my theories will die.

...I really hope Naruto came to save Sasuke, that would just make my world. And Itachi would be all like, "Well now, two things I need are already here for the taking, YAY!" And then Sasuke will be like, "RAWR NARUTO! MY FIGHT, MINE!" And then Naruto will bitch him out and then they will make Itachi dead.

I'd be surprised if it's Itachi, there wasn't enough buildup that Sasuke was going to do anything but stand there and take it. Also last we knew Naruto was stuck in one place being unable to even lay a finger on Tobidara, so I don't know how he'd manage to pass him, pass Team Hebi, pass Kisame and reach them in such a relatively short time without even one explosion. Kishi doesn't do flashbacks much for things that happen simultaneously, and there would be way too many obstacles to clear and it would totally ruin the tension to have him there so easily. But man it would be nice ;_; Hell, i'd even accept Sasuke being rescued by KARIN at this point. T_T

I like your Mangekyou theory. It makes sense to me. So even if Kakashi gave Sasuke his eye, Sasuke wouldn't get the mangekyou? Hmmm. And since Obito didn't have the mangekyou, Kakashi's eye is still slowly going blind? Hrrrm.

AHAHAHAH! I was literally laughing so hard I was crying with this stuff, Asuka. Apparently the same stuff goes through everyone's minds when reading the chapters. It's just funnier when someone actually writes it.

I also am somewhat disappointed in Kishi's change of style, it seems much more simplistic. Kind of devolution rather than evolution (whee i may have invented a word!)

I am so ready for Sasuke to finally win a fight with Itachi. It's old now, so very, very old. I don't care if the whole Sasuke vs Itachi thing is resolved in this fight, I'm perfectly okay with it being interrupted or otherwise unresolved so long as it's at least a draw and Sasuke gets some damage in.

I'm hoping for the scream being Itachi discovering what it's like to stick your fingers down a snake's throat. I mean, their teeth curve backward to keep their prey from wiggling out before they swallow them completely....

IF that is actually what is causing the scream, I think I will fall out of my chair and kick myself through my floor and probably kill my brother by crashing onto him from the ceiling LOL

I mean sure, he has issues (HELLOOOO! beloved older brother slaughtered entire clan and mind-raped him when he was seven!) and he's not exactly a sunshine and rainbows, BUT he's a kid with a goal dammit! He knew exactly what that goal was and started thinking about how to accomplish it the moment he woke up from all that torture.

btw, WTF IS UP WITH HOW THEY DEALT WITH HIS TRAUMA?! maybe they just doesn't show it cause it would waste panel space, but it seems like no one in Konoha thought about how to help this little kid deal with this horrific event that basically took away every adult figure in his life. I would almost EXPECT him to be a cutter, but as he is in the manga, I think he would consider a very stupid move to hurt himself when he should be focusing on getting stronger.

It had me squeeing at a few of the panels… okay not a few, more like a lot.

And gasp! Itachi actually said “forgive me”, what is this? The past two chapters have been playing havoc on my interpretation of him. I figured him to be the more calm type, rather than the scream his plans to everyone while revealing the oh-shit-this-is why-I-really-did-it thing. Then he goes and actively asks Sasuke to forgive him, obviously showing that he believes the end is near. I never thought he'd be the type to show remorse.

And uhm…*pets Sasuke* Our baby is all grown up! Orochimaru was worth it, good job, good job. ~~Now go back to konoha and have hawt make-up-sex with all those who deem it fit, okay? There a good Uchiha.~~

Sorry it took me a while to read this. ^^; To answer your question, I don't know of any other ways to say 'forgive me,' at least not in terms of vocabulary. But the verb conjugation - and, just going by the expression and such, probably the verbal inflection - is the same.

...And that's just all kinds of wrong. -_-;

Personally, I'm inclined to think that we're going to get a trick here - probably after a brief switch of scenes to draw the drama out. But can I ask a really odd question? Where the heck are people getting this whole "god-mode Sasuke has to get taken down a few pegs" thing? Since when was he god-mode-all-powerful? Sure, he managed to throw the Konoha group off, but they were holding back, and the fight was over too quickly for any real comparison. And he got battered all over the place in the fight with Deidara, and admitted up-front that the only reason he managed to beat Orochimaru was because snake-boy was weakened. He's not untouchable or superpowerful (That would be Itachi, and I do want to see him get taken down a peg or two! All-powerful enemies are just as annoying as all-powerful heroes.), and what's more, he doesn't seem to have any compunctions against admitting that fact.
