(i'm gonna go with the idea that time/space jutsus we hear so much about are just a brand new name Kishi has attached to his teleporting jutsu that Kakashi used in Part 1, with the swirl of leaves, because otherwise I'll keep wondering why everyone suddenly knows about it when the name was never mentioned anywhere before.)

OH MY GOD TOBI IS THE REAL SIR LEADER AND AN UCHIHA XDDDDDD (I can't tell with my translation -- is he Uchiha Madara or is he saying he's got the same power as Uchiha Madara? I'd say the first, since he's got this canon connection to Kyuubi, but...

... i'm waiting a bit before I decide if this is going to be awesome or horrible. Itachi's starting to look kinda sloppy, I seriously hope we get some neat backstory explaining WTF happened before and during the massacre that fixes that for me. XD

So long as Tobi doesn't turn out to be Obito, I'll be satisfied. My standards are really low now. However, if Kishimoto does something stupid like redeem Itachi, I'mma swear off this series forever. >_>

Nrgh yeah, Tobito would make me twitch quite a bit. I can see a way or two to justify MadaraTobi, even if looks kind of OH A COINCIDENCE right now, but Tobito, no.

I would love to see an explanation or at least an exploration of Itachi's mindset that gives him more depth ( not like him being a little deeper would be *hard* compared to what he is now ) and yet doesn't redeem him at all. It's pretty hard to redeem mass murder. I seriously hope Kishi doesn't try -- Itachi is much better when he's totally unapologetic.

The day Itachi's mindset is explained is the day he fights Sasuke to the death, the day Itachi is redeemed is the day the manga dies.

That was just a lesson in Cheese 101. ._. In the meantime, I'm thinking Tobi as the Real Sir Leader (will the Real Sir Leader please stand up?) leans more towards horrible than fantastic. It seems like something out of a crackfic (in fact, I think I've seen one like it before), but I'll have to wait and judge later. I still can't imagine Tobi as a serious character, much less a criminal mastermind.

Oh, and since Tobi's a Uchiha, who do you think he really is? Who else survived the massacre? With the way the manga's going, it's probably been Sasuke's mother leading Akatsuki all along. ;)

i've always thought that someone (single or plural) had to have survived other than sasuke. it just makes absolutely no sense that every single last member of the uchiha clan happened to be there when itachi when a-slaughtering.

Here's hoping that any Itachi-mindset exploration that might happen occurs not to explain away or otherwise justify the Uchiha massacre, but rather to show just how completely fucked in the head he is. Anything else would leave a bad taste.

No. Obito was crushed halfway, covering one eye. The other eye was removed. So Tobi could be Obito and the covered eye could be the missing one and the "crushed" part could actually have been fine and OH MY GOD KISHIMOTO IS ACTUALLY GOING TO DO THIS ISN'T HE.

Anyway, my theory about the 'Almighty Mangekyo' is that all it really is is letting the Sharingan cast ninjutsu as well as genjutsu - which latter we've known it could do ever since Kakashi first faced off against Zabuza, right?

Of course, I've also got this crazy idea that ninjutsu is really just mucking with chakra in the environment and genjutsu is mucking with chakra inside someone else's body and that neither definition actually has anything to do with illusion or physical changes at all, so anything I think should be taken with a grain or two of salt. ^_^

The line is "kono uchiha madara no chikara" --> "This Madara Uchiha's power." I think it implies that he is in fact our dear friend Uchiha Madara.... and apparently the world's greatest actor.

If that is indeed the original line, then yeah, it'd translate loosely to something like, 'I, the great and mighty Uchiha Madara...'

'Kono (name)' is a first-person construction - Inuyasha's Sesshoumaru uses it too, for an example of the kind of character it'd be considered typical of.

It's a popular theory but as far as i can recall we've never seen Madara's face so the statue could be him, or a hyuuga, or some random ninja. hell it could be a sarutobi for all we know.

Wouldn't that fall under the "Sarutobi (Sr.) kicks/-ed ass" file? If so, then the backstory is either going to be awsome (hopefully) or will blow (depressingly more likely). Assuming that Mandera was there, I was under the impression that the (1st) fight there happened some time ago. Kyuubi meeting him doesn't give us a timeframe really, but it could be related to the attack on Konoha (trigger?)

It's kind of like a spirit or a soul. It can also be 'heart', but not so much as in the organ that pumps blood through your body as a more metaphorical kind.

Why not Shisui? So far as I can recall (and I may be wrong) Itachi never actually SAID he killed him --- he said thanks to Shisui he got Mangekyou Sharingan. We all assumed that meant he killed Shisui, because he then told Sasuke that to get MS you have to kill your best friend, but maybe Shisui WASN'T his best friend. Or maybe he didn't tell Sasuke the truth (how the hell did Kakashi get it if you have to kill your best friend and ... oh holy shit), and put fake information in some of the 'secret scrolls' Sasuke later looked at.

And as for "... they found Shisui's body ..." who's to say they didn't do some freaky-deaky complicated jutsu to fake it?

... yeaarh, just my thoughts. And I can't even claim i came up with the theory. Long before we knew AL was actually called Pein, someone on NMR had a theory that AL was Shisui. I just transferred that to TRALWIAT (The Real Akatsuki Leader Which Is Actually Tobi) = Shisui. aha.

(As for 'oh holy shit' in the brackets a while up, I just had a scary thought. Since Kakashi's sharingan is actually Obito's maybe ... maybe ... Obito killed his best friend [wasn't that Kakashi? Or something? argh.] and that's how it happened, and that would mean Obito's alive and is Tobi [maybe] and damn I don't even really want to ponder that, it's making my brain hurt. Nevermind)

What really happened in the Uchiha massacre:

Madara: Itachi, if you don't surpass me, I'll kill everyone horribly.
Itachi: *kershnap* Hey, that's a good idea. *kills everyone horribly* By the way, Sasuke, you must surpass me.
Madara: *in the distance* *cackleglee* Yes, this is the most perfect plan evar!

On a less cracky note, it is bizarrely possible that Itachi is really, truly devoted to Madara/Tobi/Real Sir Leader's get-stronger-ultimate-power cause, and is willingly sacrificing himself to make Sasuke really really strong so that Madara can kill him and get even stronger. Which would conveniently explain why Itachi knows Sasuke's still alive (without the kokoro) because it's all part of The Plan. Or something.

I'm just thowing out weird ideas, here.

Everyone complains that the series is getting worse. Kishi is only human! He cannot simply satisfy everyone.

I was -very- surprised about the Tobi = leader behind the scenes and an Uchiha. From the translation I read, it doesn't seem that Tobi is Uchiha Madara, just that he has the true power of the Uchiha which is the power that Madara had. Madara would be really old, because the Kyuubi met him a very very long time ago from what I can recall. I'm sad to say that I think Kishimoto is making it that Tobi is Obito... I mean, it's been a theory for a while (the mask with the hole in that eye, the name) and now that we know he's an Uchiha that's more evidence. Of course, it'd be cool if he's a new character we don't know, since him being Madara wouldn't make sense and being Obito would just be... weird. I hope we find out soon though.
