deep thoughts on Naruto episode n°218 ~
-ONLY TWO EPISODES OF FILLERS LEFT.
-art is still kinda weird and blah, and it makes it look like Shika's kagemane doesn't even connect -- and there are tons of other things that look like we're supposed to find them likely, but the art blows it by making them move weird or stand in strange places.
-the filler writers are so ShikaTema that even Ino notices. Sadly, they can't show it in any original way and are reduced to rehashing highlights of the previous ShikaTema interaction. u.u Also, hello for Shikamaru almost ignoring Ino -- and Ino almost not reacting to it. WTF she's still his teammate. D:
-The new name of the KankKiba pairing is now doggykittyluv. u.u Because Kiba calls himself a dog and Kankuro wears that kitty headgear, but mostly because they fight like it. ♥
-ahahaha Gaara is tricky like Tanuki.
-omg the art. NARUTO'S TEETH. WHAT.
-wow, GaaSaku fans have some canon basis now. XD ... Wait, Gaara told Lee to be careful! True love! So that would be LeeGaaSaku. Oh hey, I can get behind that. o.o
-Oh. My. God. WHY DID THEY MAKE INO THAT STUPID AND USELESS. Yeah, say you're going to use Shika and Tema's attacks as diversion, and then jump away from cover, get in the middle of the field when no one else is moving and YELL THE NAME OF YOUR TECHNIQUE, and I promise the woman WONT ATTACK YOU WHAT THE HELL.
-Inner Gaara: yes, Sakura, that's where I hurt. On the...upper thigh leg. ... Just a little higher...
-- omg they exchanged a Serious Look. And they both have green eyes. OTP~
-Gaara using the word "nakama" seriously to refer tohis sucky student that useless new character... Yeah. no. No. nononononono. That's even stronger than "friend". Since when does he use words like that for people he's known two days -- oh wait, I forget this is His Dear, Special Student.
-Wee InoSaku. Man, Sakura's a slut today. And it's nice of the filler writers to make Ino realize that she's useless, but that doesn't fix the way she's been sidelined in favor of WHEE TEMASHIKA SO HAWT, unless she somehow does something very neat next episode. I like ShikaTema, but damn it. *pets Ino*
-OMG GAARA. wow. He used part of his sand armor to make a spear and stab the guy through the heart *____* -- wait, this is fillers, it will be through the shoulder somehow. But still, while this IS smart seeing as the rest of his sand is out of commission, it would have been smarter to use sand that was covering up a non-vital part of your body, genius.
-Oh my, the art really makes Neji and Hinata's >:O look seem retarded.
-... Gaara should never. Ever. go "mary-sue matsuri..." in his thoughts. And he's carrying her weapon in his shirt wtf. hnn.
-Oh well, it's not the most horrible filler ever, there are some good action scenes in between two "yeeahright", and I'm kinda glad that Gaara is the central character, not Naruto for once, but sometimes the characterisation is so rushed, summarized and approximative. Blergh. ... But then that's the way it is for most fillers, anyway. -__-;;

In other news I've written 20 lines of Teamwork yay. Now i'm kinda stuck again, but perhaps not as much. Hrrrmm. This requires some more deep thoughts.

as for the student thing I have less beef with the character herself than with the way they brought her up. I like that she's not magically all powerful and badass enough to save herself from the big bad and that she doesn't like the idea of hurting people, but in that case she probably shouldn't even try to be a ninja. Also the lesson thing from the sand sibs made no fucking sense, and I hate how gaara is made to react to her like a girl who's somewhat cowardly is suddenly his best friend -- okay she wasn't afraid of him and that's a big plus, but that's maybe because SOMEHOW NONE OF THE KIDS SEEMED TO REALLY REMEMBER HE WAS GAARA OF THE FRIGGIN DESERT. D:
And here I was so happy at the idea of maybe seeing some Sand Village dynamics. The only thing that made me squee was Baki vs councilguy, which was surprisingly shiny for a filler, but it didn't last enough... and the situation that brought it didn't even make that much sense, anyway.
*flops* Gaara's OOC reactions to her and the clumsy way the student thing was brought up bug me more than she does, really.

Why does Gaara have a student? Naruto I can see, but that is only because he beat old-man Hokage, so he rates sensei status for a team of acadamy brats *puts snide comments on hold* I thought that Gaara's control of the sand was because of Ichibi. I do remember that daddy dearest took him under his wing for the first couple years of his life, but I thought that that would be for the basics (shinobi codes, geography, basic jutsu, etc.) and Jinchuriki-specific training, so unless she's got Gobi or something sealed in her, training under Gaara would have limited benefits (such as learning how to scare people shitless without raising your voice. A useful skill, no doubt.)
As for Ino jumping out into the open, anime battles 101: Ambushes must involve revealing your position. 102: if you use an attack that is more complicated than a simple puch, thou shalt declare its name to the world. Exeptions include if this is origionating off screen as part of an 11th hour-save-the-day manuver, if this is something that is seen in almost every episode, and if this is supposed to be too bad ass to need a name (one is, however, suggested) 103: you will have a five second grace period to shout said attack wherin you will be safe from personal injury.

I never get why an villein lets the hero us any attack that has a long ass name... If I had superpowers and had to yell a name I have the sense to yell it after there been hit/killed and if there not killed move into a per secured hiding spot I find before attacking.

You write so well that as you criticise an ep. you still make it sound interesting. Gaara as a central character sounds good enough for me to look at this filler and break my 'not looking at another filler' vow.
I just had a thought though, if they are gonna continue the series from part 2 then maybe they want to get people re-acquainted with Gaara^^ That could explain it.

Yeah, I figured it was about reintroducing Gaara, too. Because this is the first time ever he's been in the fillers, as far as I can recall. Might also explain Temari and Shika's "oh hay let's summarize our whole interaction in a few expository lines" thing, too.
