Hm, there was one broken arm which they put me out to repair because it...well it kind of flipped the radius and ulna bones so that one was kind of poking up at the top of my wrist. Actually, I'm very surprised that the bone didn't break the skin.
And then there was leg surgery in which I had my achilles tendons lengthened (which just means that they sliced them, pulled them up and reattached them) so that I could stand flat on my feet. That hurt like a bitch. And I had to go around in a wheelchair for half a year. Also had UGLY UGLY bright neon pink fiberglass casts that I picked out myself because as I child I had no concept of taste whatsoever. :D
And I have it on authority from my parents that I've been in and out of the hospital for most of my infant and toddler years due to pneumonia and strep. Uh, and the one concussion that was totally my granparent's fault.
And you're right: hospitals smell. And the rooms are ugly. ^_^
