Neji gen recs~

phoenix_melody has just updated Oracle. If you forgot, it's a Neji-centric fic, heavy on the Hyuuga clan study, internal politics and angst. Slow to update so deal with it, for it is shiny.

Neji is blinded during a mission, and now he's going to die. But first he wants to change the Hyuuga.

It's really good, great characterisation, mmm politics where everyone has their own ambitions and battles to get enough influence to realize them, the angst isn't harped on -- it just naturally seeps from the OMGWHATNO situations -- and some lines are really excellent.



And a slightly old one-shot that I only just found yesterday, Mistake, by Sycogerl64. Neji-centric, gen, OMGTHEANGSTITBURNS. Powerful.

"It’s a joke among Konoha ninja that you don’t, in fact, make Jounin. Rather the morning after the Hokage will say,
“Congratulations on your first S-rank mission. See me about your new rank when you can walk again.”
It’s one of the jokes that are funny until you make Jounin yourself."

That quote is oh-so-true, but if you're expecting the rest of the fic to keep the same snarky distance with the events... Well. No, not really. It plunges right in. Ouchies. It's a little hard to recognize Neji at times, but that's for a very, very, very good reason and I'm not going to spoil the fic. It's not very long anyway, so if you like evilangst, go for it.

I'm glad you liked the new chapter--I've been worried it might disappoint some people who've been waiting for so long.

It's not going to be so slow anymore; my goal is to finish it by it's two-year anniversary.
