Lee seems to have a strong desire to beat Neji, but is it a rivalry, of is the Hyuuga just a measuring stick that he compares himself against, how he relates to a 'perfect ninja'? He seemed a bit put out when he learned Naruto beat Neji in the Third Exam, but cheered up soon after. (that seems telling, but I haven't teased my brain sufficiently for it to tell me what it thinks.) The mind-control jutsu could just be covering his bases. Should he need it in the future, he'll have an agent that is well situated in society, isn't under regular scrutiny (she could hide in a crowd of 3), and has a bloodline. Should Orochimaru decide that Oto needs the Byakugan, he can procure breeding stock. (I have another pet theory that Orochi-kun is trying to breed a perfect body: He's has/had (at least) 2 specimens from clans that he wants the bloodlines of (Sasuke, Kimimaru), and he has a village full of brood mares, and time. He seems to be the kind of person that has no compunctions about planning in terms of generations.) He could have her continue gathering data, or commit acts of sabatoge. (looks at Random!Suna-nin who opened the gates for Sasiori and Deidera) Or it could be data gathering. Whatever he was doing did seem medical, and he's a smart boy. It wouldn't be much of a leap of faith for him to connect the dots of 'almost got killed by a skilled jyuuken user' and 'is hacking up blood a month later' Where does he say that he thinks she's ugly? I can see not taking "Hello gorgeous" at face value (no pun intended), but ugly? Sakura's the one he calls a hag. As for interesting, I'm more curious about Danzou than Sai, true, but his fighting style is...interesting.
