hrrmm. (pimp and pondering)
1)
rayemars updated the pimp!Naruto story yay! ♥
2)
gothicstargrl drew the most awesomest crack ever. DOGGY-STYLE SAI/CHOUJI FTW.
So I've been thinking of doing NaNo this year. Alas! I am lazy as fuck, my inspiration is a fickle thing... so I'm not sure I'll do it, or go very far if I do, but.
Problem is, I don't know what to write.
1) Teamwork 2 is almost finished, the next few sequels are all one-shots, and I still need to figure out in which order they take place anyway; (besides I just can't rush through Teamwork, and nano is all about rushing and not caring)
2) no other Naruto bunnies seem to want to be novel-length at the moment,
3) Cercle requires lots of thinking ahead to see what needs fixing and what I can keep with the plot.
Which means I should probably go with another ofic.
Problem is, I don't have Ofic ideas all that often. D:
4) Old, OOOOLD story about a mad scientist and half-animal people that I thought were so original and then I learned that Island of Dr. Moreau had preceded me by about a century. I love the characters to death, and their backstories are so deliciously evil, but if I take away the Mary-Sues, I have no plot left anymore. WHAT HAPPEN.
5) Newer story that would actually be a sequel to my still unfinished one-shot ofic about genetically engineered mermaids on a water-covered world whose modern civilization crumbles after several earthquakes yay. Sequel would take place during the rediscovery of this world. Alas! No characters, just a "oooh shiny, culture clashes yay". (also, WOE! Mathow and Rylan will be long dead by then. Nooooes. And it will probably show a bit if I base any more characters on Naruto people, even as vaguely as that. Bad Asuka, no biscuit. XD)
So.

whereas with the half-beasties, I have all the characters and backstories planned out.
... and no story to go with it. Mostly I'd need a catalyst to start things off, but i'm not sure what to use. XD;;

You know I think you should already, but I encourage anyway. Plus, mermaids are hot.

My felines have too many details to track to fit well in a quantity over quality situation. NaNo is so not the time to have a cast of dozens to keep tabs on. :P
*ponders* If I think of something by the first maybe I'll do it unofficially. Just because I haven't managed to knock out a complete long story in years. I suck.
no subject
OOH felines~ you got a universe? *_* What kind?
no subject
I have a few
too many. The felines come from a fairly standard "up-lifted and abandoned" scenario since that's the quick and dirty way to have multiple sentient species on the same planet. ^^; I haven't decided just what picked up these kitties and made them intelligent and anthropomorphic; given that took place in the distant past it's not terribly important.
The "current" society is pseudo-renaissance; clockwork technology is starting to spread from the capitol, gunpowder is mostly used for fireworks and minor demolition (mining, getting the big boulder out of your field, that sort of thing), and there's still a bias against using firearms (it's dishonorable.)
There are also gods wandering around and magic in use. Part of why gunpowder isn't being used for munitions is that invoking the favor of a god is more accurate and less likely to blow you up than a cannon. Of course, if you pick the wrong god, or the right one at the wrong time, you might wish you tried the cannon.
One of the things I need to flesh out is the world outside of the home country of the main character. She's living in a relatively benign theocracy where the higher ranking officials are all chosen for their resemblance to their goddess. The Chosen (the highest ranking Priestess and ruler of the country) is supposed to look exactly like the goddess in case She needs a living body to inhabit.
The story is supposed to follow the main character from the age of about 4 through her 40s. The problem is I have her from about 4 to 16-ish and then from about 30 to 40 and no idea what's going on for the missing decade in the middle; other than some political messes that will eventually lead to a war. *head!desk*
I have a few other characters in other parts of the world but none of them are screaming "write my story" yet. I don't even know if they end up meeting each other at any point. :P
I RPed as some of them on mucks for a while, basically a more modern AU scenario. I have art of a couple minor characters, Nakyta and Elidi. Unfortunately the main character has thwarted my attempts to draw her, she always ends up looking too masculine. *sigh*

The animal story had Sues a long time ago, because i knew where everyone was when it started and what happened before, but i didn't know how else to get the story moving. Since then all the other characters have evolved and grown more complex and i've pretty much forgotten about the sues. If I wrote it now, they wouldn't exist. But this means I have nothing to act as a catalyst and make things start evolving. T_T

Truthfully, I don't know which of my ideas to use, either. I can't belive I'm actually doing it, but my options are a fantasy realm, a vampire realm, or a story about me, a friend, and our unfortenate love lives....
no subject
Hmmmm. What kind of fantasy? What kind of vampires? ^^

The vampires is also your basic normal person is accidentaly caught up in the 'underground world.' Not too original, but it could be fun, maybe erotic.

NaNoWriMo provides new authors--or those like me, who tend to be on the lazy side--a chance to feel like they've accomplished something. Once you've written the first novel, the second is easier--and the second one might actually be good.
Even more importantly, NaNoWriMo provides community. For writers in big cities, this can be an opportunity to connect with local writers without the competition of guessing who's work is better. Writers in smaller areas might only connect with others online, but that can be valuable support too.
It seems to me that you're past this. You have several completed novel-length works, and you're already a member of a thriving community of writers, so I can't quite see what you have to gain by devoting an entire month to creating something which, it seems, you'd have to force yourself to be passionate about.
Of course, do what you want. Myself and, I'm sure, others here will support you no matter what you decide, even if it means you write a novel we never get to read. :)
For me personally, I know that NaNoWriMo will never work, November is just a god-awful month for me to be writing; in my part of the world, November is all gray, rain, and downright depressing. I've tried two times now. The first year I was on track until the last week, but a family emergency made me abandon the project. The second year I just couldn't get into it, and gave up after about 20,000 words. I'm saying this to show that I've tried it, but please don't think my comments are just sour grapes.
This probably isn't the best place to mention it, but I friended you. I heard someone mention the general plot of Teamwork and I was like "WTF?" But I like Team 7 and I'm a sucker for m/f/m, so I gave it a shot. And I've been enjoying quite a bit. :)

ALAS! You arrive at a bad time, for I have just been flamed by an utter moron, (the one who threatened me with her mafia friends, in case you've been reading back a bit) and am thus stuck in defensive mode. And to a paranoid mind like mine, the paragraph in the middle could be translated to "nano is just for beginners, it's not your place, you... you BNF. You don't even care about any of these stories, I can tell! D:" Which, um, yeah, no. XD;;; I wouldn't even talk about these stories if I didn't love them and want to make something out of them.
Like I said, I'm stuck in defensive mode, and I do appreciate the advice. But. Yeah. It does sound a bit like "I wonder what you're doing ogling this sandbox? You already have your own." What if I want to write something that isn't fanfic for once? I just need some motivation. Filling Nano's objectives is one.
NaNo isn't reserved to people who have the same motive you pointed out. And I know I more than probably won't finish it -- and so what? At least I'll have tried.
(and "never get to read"? hehe. XD I'm such a review whore, you can bet I'll post everything I do write. I'd probably die otherwise.)
no subject
Alas, I have no opinion of my own about NaNo, because of my limited knowledge of how it works and such. Still, Ticky Box. It seduced my with its ticky-ness O.o
no subject
The problem with choosing Cercle for NaNo is that I've got to figure out how to fix the things that went wrong without altering the main plot too much, and that requires some deep thinking. Besides, I think I care too much about the characters to churn out page after page of random story. So in the end I don't think I'll go with this one, alas. ;_; But I WILL continue to write it, really I will. Just, er, a little slow? XD;
The way it works, basically, is that you have 30 days to write 50 000 words. u.u;;; Quantity over quality, yeah. They have a site where you can log in your work so it counts how far you've gone, but it doesn't keep the file or anything. There's no prize if you manage it, just the satisfaction to know that you did it. XD
no subject
NaNoWriMo sounds like it could potentionally be fun, if you have sufficent motivation. For me, I would simply forget since there are no deadlines and such. I'm so lazy... ^^;; and a major procrastinator
no subject
I voted space mermaids, because I'd really like to read something new from you. Always hoping that a new original work will pop out from an author I already know I love (think we could talk Maldoror into NaNo? **drools at the thought**).
NaNo is a good learning experience - it gets you into the habit of daily writing, if it's done right, and it also teaches you to work with deadlines rather than against them. And if you're luvky, it shows you how to write without sacrificing what may or may not be left of the rest of your life. ^_~

Either way, I think that mermaid idea is pretty clever. If your worried about the characters, just try to think of the plot (which you obviously already have) and figure out from who's point of veiw you want to tell the story, and create a character to fit the role. That's usually how it goes for me, 'cause then you can just create characters for convinience, instead of forcing the plot to wrok with the characters (as I am sometimes forced to do >_<)
Then again, you probably already know all that. I should just shut up >_>
Anyways, I hope you don't mind that I friended you, but I really like your work.
