Thanks to everyone who helped me about the law stuff. ^_______^ It wasn't even really important for the fic, but the question did bother me quite a bit, so i'm glad I have a better idea of what would be going on now.
... have Sasuke pay a fine -- mostly because he was caught in the act and didn't bother denying anything. But the cops all looked very apologetic and understanding. Because, man, they've heard the story -- and I think the older cops remember Before The Massacre fairly well, and the last Uchiha... well, is the last Uchiha. They would let a lot of little things like that slide for him.
Incidentally, i'm sleepy, so I can't remember if I ever mentioned who exactly knew about Sasuke's almost-betrayal.
Because, if I mentioned that everyone knew, i'mma gonna have to edit that cops thing a bit. It's alright, it's only a few lines, it's just I'd rather not contradict myself XD;;;
(I would like it better if I can pretend that only ANBU and the Council know he was trying to betray them, or at least how entirely he was ready to do it. If other Jounin and lower ranks know, they could assume that he cracked under pressure, was mad with grief and/or that orochimaru mindfucked him -- which were all a part of it, but far less than they think it was. Sasuke did more than simply react, he made a decision. It's better if they at least assume he was simply reacting, otherwise I doubt they'll ever trust him very far, and the cops in particular will probably see it as sullying the name of the Uchiha... in which case they won't be friendly at all. hmm.
