guess who wrote back... XD;;;
my reply to the first mail: (okay, could have handled it better ._.)
>How old are you? You're aware that the stories have ratings for a reason,
>right? I hate to sound pretentious, but if you have to ask why I write
>things like that, then it's very much a "you'll understand when you're
>older" kind of thing.
his/her (rather predictable now that i'm thinking about it) reply:
how old are you then first!!! then i'll tell you how old i am any ways those cartoons are kidlike!!! don't you think!!!!! are you a guy or a girl or what!!!!
-__-; It's pretty much confirmed that s/he's not mature enough for my NC17 fics. But aw, so cute, bruised ego. That reminds me of the old days. (except I kept my discoveries about the world of adults to myself thank you very much)
my second reply:
Heh, sorry if that first mail sounded like I didn't take you seriously. I didn't expect to be asked that, I guess. Usually it's only people who are fans of the kind of stories I write who email me. You surprised me.
Some cartoons have a story that would be good for kids, but they also talk about more serious stuff -- like Naruto is about ninjas and cool fights and funny moments, but sometimes when you think about it, it's also about war and death and very difficult choices, or like Gundam Wing is about boys fighting in giant robots, but is also about political stuff and war. It's okay to like them because the characters are fun and it's just plain cool to watch, but it's not ONLY for kids. (personally, I watch it because the fights are cool, AND because it makes me think. The life of a ninja or a gundam pilot is probably difficult.)
Besides, even older people can have fun watching cartoons. And hey, my uncle is 33 and he plays videogames. ^__^
So, I write stories because I like to think about the characters, and what they do when the episodes don't show us, or show other people instead, and what would happen if something didn't happen like it happened on the show, and just how they live.
Sometimes I write them fighting against other enemies. Sometimes I write them just talking with each other. And sometimes I write them having sex, because people do that in real life, and the characters probably do that too -- but I only imagine stories with sex in them when they're older, like 16 or more. And when I write I forget that younger people want to read about them too, which is why your email surprised me.
I don't think that sex is "nasty". It's private, it should only be done with people you love and trust and only when you think you're ready, and you shouldn't talk about it with just anyone, but it's not a bad thing. It's just not anyone's business but your own. Some people are shy about it, and some people are not -- I'm not, so I write stories about sex, so that other people who like that kind of stories read them. But it still makes me feel uncomfortable to know that people who are shy about it or who are too young to have sex read them.
If you said "nasty" because it has two boys in it instead of a boy and a girl, that's something else. Usually boys like girls and girls like boys, but there are always exceptions. It's just like most people like chocolate, but some people don't. And for that, too, it's a private thing.
I'm really sorry if it sounds like i'm talking down to you. And since you asked, i'm 24, and i'm a girl.
I have a bad, bad feeling that this will be a case of "too long, didn't read", though. Ah well, at least I tried. I really can't handle anyone younger than 14. I am utterly unable to judge what to tell them, what they can and can't understand and what's appropriate and not -- and not knowing the parents and what they're teaching them to adapt my contents to theirs doesn't help.

If they're insulted, good. Maybe they'll stop reading, or be annoyed enough that a parent will notice.

Who knows - maybe they will stop.

I bow to your patience and your competent, thorough explanation. : )

It's both astounding and more than a little dismaying that there are people out there who make NARUTO look thoughtful, composed, and mature. =_=

Now now, Asuka. Stop tormenting the newbies.
You could scare her/him away and then what? You could be denying yourself all sorts of amazing plotless (yet in an appreciative adult way, of course) pr0n from a budding new author, you ever thought of that?
Wow, Asuka. You sure are wierd. XD
::is highly amused by all this. I am a horrible person, I know. X3::

... thanks for scarring my brain btw. *runs away crying*

Now that you've done your socially conscious/youth education type thing, perhaps you will turn your attention for the plot bunnies currently breeding in the corner over there. Oh, and keep us posted, because I've always appreciated a nice serving of fine, young whine. *snicker*

**cough** Anyway -- I probably wouldn't even have bothered. Those kinds of people just get on my nerve -- and if I hear one more ''anime is KIDDIES show'' I'm going to strangle somebody. Most likely somebody from my school, as they seem to like to tell me that. :D
And, god, sex? nasty? Have I missed out on my education?! =O I never heard about that! But if sex is nasty because boys/girls have cooties, then it's okay, it's a boy/boy so no cooties 8D

hey, if it's a kid, they're just repeating what they've heard from family and friends. if no one tells them different, they're never going to question their views.
!! XD haha, oh god bestest response evar.

Ah yes...funny scene:
Sasuke was on his ass on the riverbank, laughing. Well, doing whatever passed for laughing since the bastard rarely ever smiled. You could probably call it wa wider version of his smirk. Naruto managed to throw a dirty look at the ass over his shoulder, but didn't have time for more because he was running for his life.
~~~~
About fifteen minutes before, Naruto had decided that it would be a "good idea" to allow Kyuubi to get some air. Meaning that the damn kitsune spirit was out and about, wreaking mild havoc and throwing insults at people left and right. There was just one thing it hadn't counted on...One person it hadn't figured into the equation, so that when a more demeanaing than normal comment flew her way, the reaction was frightening.
Sakura was on her way to find Naruto and Sasuke, and bring them to a meeting with Tsunade when Kyuubi hit her full-force with a pounce, grinning from ear to ear.
"Got you, bitch. On your knees, let's have some fun." What Kyuubified Naruto hadn't been counting on was Sakura in full-blown PMS, and it came back to bite him in the ass, both literally and figuratively. Kyuubi's survival instinct suddenly kicked into high gear as the girl's chakra flared from blue to blood-red, and she got to her feet, snarling.
"UZUMAKI NARUTO! I'm going to KILL you! I'll string you up first, then slowly cut off your..."
Kyuubi-Naruto didn't wait to hear any more. Aside from both of them agreeing on Sasuke and Sakura belonging to them, there was one other thing over which they had a perfect understanding. A pissed-off Sakura was a VERY frightening thing, and if they wanted to live to see another day, balls intact as a plus, turning tail and running the hell away was a good plan.
So, fifteen minutes later a rather large fox with nine tails was tearing down the river-path at breakneck speed, followed by what anyone would swear was a VERY pissed-off pink fox. It had been the sound of paws pounding along that had woken Sasuke from his rather nice nap, and he looked up in time to observe the rare site of a demon fox-spirit attempting to escape a fate far worse than death, or being sealed. It was running to preserve its manhood, and managing to keep it by the length of a tail, or nine. He chuckled and lay down again. Sakura would be chasing Kyuubi all day. The damn fox never learned.
And I'll have to agree with the others before me: you just clipped the silver, purple tinted wings of a Mary-Sue in the budding. ...shame on you Asuka... ;)
"are you a guy or a girl or what!!!!"
*snerk* I love how they are so kindly letting open a third or fourth option... *too easily amused*
Enough said.
My thoughts..and random sarcasm
...I wasn't actually around in the 30's...I imagine they did play bridge at some point though.
But on a more serious note. This individual does sound young and I have always found that most young men are uncomfterable around homosexuality..even reading it. I find that it's because a lot of our society is trapped in 1930's type of thinking.
So you're 24 too. How do you like being 24? Are you starting to feel older. I'm feeling a bit older. It only hit me when I turned 24 this year (as apposed to last year?). I watch cartoons and play video games too. My dad still watches cartoons on occasion and he's 57. Cartoons are fun and so are video games. I don't think you should be cut off at any age. Why should you let age define who you are?
no subject
I do agree it is a bit too long but a person who'd write something like that is probably just going to read what s/he wants to read in it.
no subject
Regardless of age, I couldn't imagine /ever/ writing like that... just ever. Really. Well, except maybe when I was in second grade and had no idea what writing standards were like. -__-;;
And if such-and-such says that something is "kidlike," that is an automatic warning of "WARNING WARNING THIS PERSON DOES NOT KNOW ANIME" thereby meaning "Holy fuck... if that's true then HOW THE HELL DID THIS PERSON READ MY STORIES?!?!" kind of thing.
Um... yes.
Although it was interesting how there was no /direct/ denial of the implication of the reader's age. Anyone older with as little immaturity would have been like, "Wtf Im old enough so dont talk to me like that" because ahh, teenagerhood/young adulthood.
Not that I'm one to talk, since I'm three years younger than you are.
