behold...!

she writes!

... well, sorta. In fact, since I feel like writing but am not inspired to write any special scene, I'm poking at almost every fic I have on my "gotta work on" list.

"Say something in Parseltongue."

Harry blinked and looked up from his parchment, laying a hand on the edge to keep it from rolling up. Draco Malfoy was sneering at him over his cauldron, on the other side of the alley separating the Gryffindor and Slytherin sides of the class. This was the first time he had acknowledged Harry's existence at all since the last year. And here Harry had thought his father getting incarcerated at Azkaban and his subsequent fall in the circles of influence of the school would keep him subdued definitely.

Not that Harry hadn't been happy for the vacation. The little git and his poisonous tongue didn't make for nice conversation.

"Did widdle Hawwy fowgot how to? Come on, hiss something."

"How about fuck off?"

"That was in English."

Harry rolled his eyes. "That whole panic about my Parselmouth abilities is rather out of date, Malfoy," he whispered back, scowling. And he wasn't about to awaken the unease his schoolmates felt about it. He knew that contrary to what Wizarding folktales said he was not a Dark wizard, but there was no point in rubbing it in.

Malfoy's gray eyes narrowed and he leaned over his cauldron, but before he could say anything, Miss Plumemolle, the new Potions teacher, stepped between them, giving them both a stern look. Harry looked down at his sheet of parchment again.

"Like I was saying, the uses of the stinging nettle vary greatly depending on the phase of the moon it was collected on..."

Harry sighed and started writing again as the teacher droned on. He had seven inches of notes already, and they were only halfway into their double class. Apparently sixth year potions could be dangerous, and miss Plumemolle wanted them all to have a perfect understanding of every component before she let them try to actually brew anything. So she was reviewing every single one of them, meticulously covering every little detail. They were learning some new things, but they were utterly lost amongst the many scrolls of rehashing everything they already knew.

For a moment, he almost missed Snape.

What was he thinking? Snape was a biased, aggressive bastard, and his method of teaching was rather close to "throw them in the deep pool and see if they can swim (and if they don't sink, hit them over the head with an oar to check it wasn't a fluke)". At least with miss Plumemolle, they would know exactly what they were doing and why the potion would work or not. And Neville hadn't blown up even one cauldron yet -- of course, that was because they hadn't actually used them. Ron's was getting all dusty. The greasy git would have taken fifteen points off for that offense.

But he wasn't there, and it would have been all good if he had taken a vacation, or was on mission for the Order or something. But he had disappeared sometime during the summer and no one had seen him since. Harry was feeling conflicted. On one hand he was very glad not to be taught by his godfather's personal nemesis anymore. On the other hand, unfair son of a bitch as he was, the man was still on their side and he had still risked his life to save Harry's; Harry felt guilty about not feeling worse over his disappearance.

"You still haven't said something," Malfoy whispered, still pretending to take notes studiously. He was growing out his hair; the locks on the front were brushing his jaws now, and he was using a rather poncy velvet ribbon to tie the rest on his nape.

"Say what? 'Malfoy is a stupid wanker'?"

Ron's annoyed whisper had been a little too loud, and the teacher turned around to glare at them. Harry and his friend lowered their heads and took more redundant notes.

What does the Ferret want you to say, anyway? Ron wrote down on the corner of his parchment.

Something in Parseltongue, Harry scribbled back quickly. Don't have a clue why.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Ron repress a shudder. He averted his eyes. Maybe Malfoy had just wanted to remind him of one of the numerous way in which he was a freak, even in the already eccentric Wizarding community.

Seeing him start to brood, Ron grimaced and nudged him.

Listen, mate, I know it's not your fault you're a Parselmouth, but still, you shouldn't flaunt it.

Didn't plan to, Harry wrote back dryly, vaguely annoyed.

He was glad when Miss Plumemolle walked beside their desk again and they had to hide the parchment on which they'd been chatting. He didn't feel like talking about it anymore.

Two Knights: This actually happens between

and
http://www.livejournal.com/users/askerian/79185.html

Duo was bent over the hood of his car when they entered the garage, elbows-deep in its entrails. He was so intensely concentrated on whatever it was he was doing that he didn't turn until Kuro padded to him, whuffing quietly.

"Are you going to be busy much longer?" Heero asked.

Duo blinked at him quizzically as he wiped his hands clean on a rag. Well, clean was a relative term, Relena supposed. It was hard to understand what kind of interest anyone could have in such a dirtying occupation. She made a note to ask him later.

"Why d'you ask?"

"We're about to head into town. Wondered if you wanted to come."

"We are?" Relena replied, arching an eyebrow. When Heero had led her out of the house in search for his lover, he hadn't bothered explaining why.

Duo snickered briefly at her expression of mild, polite surprise. "Heh. Mission again?"

Heero nodded. "Relena needs a cat. Are you coming or not?"

She should have guessed, really. She rolled her eyes at Heero. "Right now? You know it can wait..."

"Why wait? We don't have anything special to do. And if you're anything like Duo, you'll just find reasons to put it off just a few days longer and in the end you won't get one at all."

"Wait a second. She needs a cat?" Duo was blinking, as if he had missed an episode of a particularly complicated series.

"Yes, she does."

"She happens to be right here, thank you very much," Relena replied, snorting in an unladylike way. "Heero got it into his head that if I had a pet, I would take more time to myself to take care of it."

"Well, the theory is sound at least," Duo commented as he washed his hands at the faucet in the corner. "I assume you do want a pet?"

She fidgeted, embarrassed. "Well... yes. I mean, I wouldn't mind..."

Duo straightened up and nodded. "Okay, I'm coming."

Relena caught herself pouting. They were so annoying, deciding things for her like that... but Heero was right, if they didn't go now she would probably always tell herself to go later.

"I'll call Pargan," she said with a sigh, conceding.

"No offence, princess, but I am NOT riding in that pink monstrosity."

She had not planned on taking the limo, really; Pargan was getting too old to drive safely and she wasn't good with big cars. But it was always interesting to argue with Duo. Not in the same way that it was interesting to argue with Dorothy at all, but... funnier. Sharpening her wits in a different manner.

"And why don't you want to ride in my limousine?" she asked, her tone overly patient. Most of the old diplomats she met never caught the subtle mockery in the overly sugary tones, but Duo did, because he huffed as if she had mortally offended him.

"It's PINK."

"And what is the matter with this? It's only the color of the coat of paint, Duo. It doesn't make the motor explode more often or the tires go flat at random intervals. Just because it happens to be pink doesn't make it a bad car. So long as the car works, does it matter what color it is?"

"Yes."

She gave Heero a look, hoping for his support, but he was grimacing too. "Logically speaking, Relena is right, Duo..."

"You wanna drive a pink car?"

"... I didn't say that."

Duo looked at her, crossing his arms over his chest decisively. "There."

She sighed, then laughed, because their obvious reaction to the color of her car was refreshingly childish and illogical. She was glad that Duo had taught Heero that sometimes it was okay to go with their feelings and moods and not the most practical solution. Maybe if they hung around long enough, she would gain back that ability.

Sweet little play between Duo and Relena, and very realistic, not everyone who are friends and/or lovers, agree or understand each other 100%.

I'm anxious, for Duo keeping his word and showing Relena what he meant about Heero's feelings toward her. I'm also curious to see how her and Duo's relationship evolves to the more then friends stage. It's obvious, that they both love Heero and Heero loves both of them, but the relationship between Duo and Relena is a little like school kids. They're attracted to one another and the respect is there, yet they seem unsure about how the other feels. I mean, there eventually has to be some type of confrontation about how they feel for one another aside from how they both feel about Heero. They certainly don't have to fall in love right away, but the potential for it has to be there in order for them to be able to fully share Heero...or maybe I'm just thinking too much into this.

I apologize if I'm coming off to bossy. I just really like this story so far and am getting involved in it.

Continue...please.
