It's really fascinating how John's brain and Karkat's brain 'translate' things between them! John picked up "I have a moirail" as "I have a boyfriend", but "your moirail is busy with the adult and I won't pap you" is picked up as "your sister is busy"... Because John associates 'soothing' with his sister, or just because she was clearly being discussed and Karkat didn't try to think her name?

I would give a kidney for film footage of hands-on-hips!glaring!Karkat and ROFL!John and Rose!

Does Karkat have a concept of mammals (and more to the point, mammal parenting), then? Since he seems to accept 'he's my mammal-ancestor' as a valid reason to leave an adult alone with one's sister, that seems to imply that he has a basic understanding that mammal progenitors don't hurt their offspring, whereas troll progenitors have no such instinct. (Nepeta's influence, perhaps, from observations of her prey?)

Karkat finding John and Rose's reunion romantic and touching in spite of himself was lovely -- adorable, but in a way also very true! His slow assembly of observations on John's Two Moirails, however, was pure giggle fodder! (He's mad at this one and pale at that one! Now he made up with this one! Cue the guilt and concealment... Okay, no guilt or concealment, what? Are they... do they have an agreement that John needs two moirails, so they'll share? Crazy poly-pale aliens!)

I want to talk about ALL THE THINGS, because I read this chapter three time without stopping the very moment I got the AO3 notification; my brain is sort of jelly, though, so I'm afraid I'm not very coherent or organised and I'm forgetting half the things I wanted to say. Expect more from me at some point!
