Culture clashes are awesome! And now I'm wondering at just how many unsettling differences Dirk is running into and having to cope with in his own quiet way... In some ways, it might be more disquieting to encounter clashes with your own species (it seems like the time period they've been 'reset' to is closer to Dave's than to Dirk's, and centuries can bring some serious changes in culture!); everyone expects aliens to be weird (though honestly this doesn't seem to have occurred to most of the humans yet; familiarity with the trolls as people, and in a situation where troll culture is mainly absent?), but humans who look like you and then pull something totally unexpected? That could be a lot more unsettling than aliens doing weird things.
You're right about Dirk kind of appropriating troll terms without a deep understanding of them; he might not have human culture to go on, but he wasn't exactly a part of troll culture, either! It's not "his" and his understanding of it would be pretty filtered. (My reprehensible statement of the night, though: if it makes Roxy squee, I'm for it anyway.)
Man, tonight is totally turning out to be the Night Of The Parentheses for me! More than usual, even. What is with that?
