The Dave/Karkat interaction without a language barrier might have to wait a good long while, sad as this makes me. English is way hard for Karkat (he'd have had better luck with spanish but none of the kids speak it well enough for it to be worth it) and Dave is so not about to try the mindmeld goop.
I sparkled at that, but wasn't really sure how it fit in the place it was at. No, you're right, it was supposed to be closer and then stuff got in the middle so the pacing was a bit off and I didn't figure out how to rebalance things so it would sound like a logical train of thought. :/
John alas is not naturally THAT good at empathy, especially with things he doesn't get like the threat of rape. He does have this white(mostly)/male/SUPER IMPORTANT PILOT privilege thing. In his mind it's like he's proved already he wasn't gonna hurt karkat so karkat's fears are silly and baseless and therefore when it gets too uncomfortable/tiring John can stop noticing them because his desire to sleep on the bed/close by is also important. :/ It's never been a concern for him personally so he just... forgets about it being an actual thing. He's trying to be respectful when he's thinking about it but in his world men don't get raped. He's really not seeing it from a hermaphroditic mutant redblood's perspective (or a woman's either, but at least a woman would be more likely to speak a language he understands and tell him to back the fuck off.) It's a selfish decision, not because he's a huge asshole but because sometimes he can get pretty thoughtless. (but yeah, denial's a big part of it. XD XD XD)
