Err, right, let me try again now I've recovered my coherence! I think I always say this, but I'm just totally in love with your non perfect, Nice-guy-but-still-a-soldier Zack. And your Aerith. I remember you were concerned that they came across too cold and it's nice to see you rolling with it :)
I also get little squiblies that Cloud - he tries to watch his guard around Sephiroth, but he's never really got the hang of doing it subconciously- he always has to think about it first. There's something really /personal/ between them and I like how you've got it so subtly right - Cloud seems sort of half - loyal? to him when he's not concentrating on hating him. I don't know if that's just me reading things in to your text though. But it's that kind of thing, I guess, that makes it not a good idea for Cloud to take the lead when it comes to things like this. You can't tell if it's because of the left over bits (or maybe intentional beginings) of Sephiroth's influence, or if Cloud really just feels sorry for the guy.
Anyway, I'm going to re read again now I'm not so eager I'm begining the next paragraph before I've finished the one before.... <3
