Heero isn't really in touch with Ben's emotional life, or with normal sexuality in the first place. He was more or less asexual/refocusing his energies elsewhere for the greatest part of his adolescence. XD He figures Duo would be more aware, and also he's the one in charge of giving The Talk. Ben just gets embarrassed talking with him about silly everyday stuff, because he feels a little like that's too trivial for Heero to really get and he'd always be wondering in a corner of his brain why Ben is making mountains out of molehills, at your age i was risking my life everyday and stopping a war! Uphill! In the snow! Of course Heero doesn't really think like that but Ben idealizes him a little so he doesn't want to look silly or childlike around him. Whereas with Duo he's more down to earth and buddies.
Shawn was a surprise for everyone! Duo just kinda met him as a toddler at one of his friends' who was fostering and fell in love, and then he went home and he was all "hey mind if we get a second kid". Then Heero was all "yeah but with our jobs it's kinda hard" and then duo went "well then i'll just have to quit", so then heero gave in because whoa srs decision there. XD (neither of them really quit, but now duo is an instructor and heero does data analysis and they both give seminars on stuff here and there. too old for field work! and also with the kids field work is too much of a risk anyway)
