XD;; yeah, Sephiroth's train of thought isn't even clear to himself there so I couldn't really explain.

He's all messed up between normal General and god!!jenova-influenced Sephiroth, which is pretty much eradicated but left traces and habits and well-traveled grooves in his mind. the jenova-sephiroth sees SOLDIERs as *belonging* to him, being just inferior parts of his own self running around until he decides to take them back, kind of. And the General Sephiroth, well, he's been groomed for this from childhood but if he was so successful it's because a part of him enjoyed having subordinates to protect and train and direct (Also, it's pretty much the only social bond he knew exactly how to build and maintain. he wasn't 100% inept with less regulated modes of interaction but he mostly kept himself removed because he couldn't trust them not to try to use him or fangirl him or be scared shitless of him and do stupid shit as a result. Most soldiers he could trust to act as such, and if they didn't he could punish them for it...I digress.)

jeno!seph sees Cloud as having jenova cells and being his puppet -- HIS!! puppet damnit! -- and general!seph is all "... he was such a mousey little trooper i barely noticed he even existed and wouldn't have remembered him two days later, damn it, i should have seen the spark there, and now he's all grown up and it was against me and not thanks to me."

So basically Seph is bummed that one of the best warriors he's ever had the pleasure of fighting against will never respect him and look up to him and belong to him. XD;
