uh, where did you read they were worried about profit? they're closing because the manga publishers are talking lawsuits at them, there's not exactly a choice there. if you mean the manga publishers should open a paysite, well, perhaps, but that's not gonna happen for a while, and also it would be way too easy to save the pics and redistribute them anyway so in the end that wouldn't change much for them.
