I don't think they were really story-relevant, but it's hard to tell because barring different haircuts (and ONE person who happens to not have blond hair), all 46 members of the organization pretty much look the same, and we only know around 20-30 of them by name.
It was one of those cases where the main characters were betrayed, those who escaped death went on a traing arc, and when they come back, the organization had decided to turn their warriors into unstoppable zombie beasties to deal with the big bads. I mean, okay, the organization was taking little girls and turning them into monster-killing monsters, so they weren't REAL good guys, but at least before then I thought they were good-ish.
Uh, okay, maybe that was a little more complicated than it sounded in my head.
