Yay, it's up early!

Mostly, it's the fandom taking both Sai and Madara at face value that surprises me.
I already ranted about Sai's thing, though it was more from a Sakura POV -- dude, he's the outsider who doesn't get it, he says himself he doesn't know what the promise was about and besides Sakura took back said promise TWICE now (when Naruto went four-tails and she yelled at him to forget it, that she would save sasuke on her own, and when she said next time they'd do it together.), Naruto is the one who insists on keeping the promise anyway. The "get Sasuke back!" obsession was tested by outsiders and enemies -- now it needs to be tested closer to home. That's all. I don't even hate Sai -- he's being himself, with limited emotional understanding (and most likely a wish he were Naruto's most important person too. jeeeaaaalouuuus. XD)
But Madara... WTF is with that "omg it's predetermined that Sasuke and Naruto would be enemies and that Sasuke would go evil and warlike! Madara = word of god!" reaction? Saro said it better than me:
Seriously... Recently the Sasuke/Itachi fight + aftermath came out as a volume in French, so I've been reading it over. And you know what? Madara outright SAID what his goal was. He said that he couldn't stand the idea of the war ending and peace being built on all those people who died. He said he attacked Konoha repeatedly. He said he summoned the Kyuubi once, and pretends he didn't do it a second time even though Itachi says he did. He said he was butthurt over the Uchiha kicking him out, and even when Fugaku's generation "saw the light" and started wanting to fight Konoha again he still didn't forgive the Uchiha clan.
He set up the Akatsuki to keep the countries in a state of war, because that was advantageous to him. He kept prodding at Konoha when Konoha was settling into peace through superior firepower. Even when Tsunade and the Third tried to keep the peace, he kept kicking the anthill. He helped off the Uchihas, and when Itachi tried to give Sasuke some peace and to make him feel as if he'd done somethiung good Madara went and told him a truth he knew would break him and make him pick up the one-man vendetta.
And now he's saying there can't be peace between Senjuu and Uchiha, that there has never been and there never will be and it's just plain fate there would always be strife between them? Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy. The only reason there isn't peace is because he doesn't want it to be, and then he takes the result of his own actions as both proof he's right and excuse to keep doing them and pretends it's destiny.
The only time Madara ever tells the truth is when the truth would get him what he wants better, and even then he will still word it so that he looks good -- see his "what kind of man would sacrifice his little brother selfishly? so when they didn't respect that sacrifice I didn't want there to be peace", if that way of formulating it isn't calculated to tug at Sasuke's heartstrings I don't know what is -- see his "oh no, the FIRST time okay I did bring Kyuubi but the second time it was entirely accidental! Itachi just told you it wasn't so you'd stay away from me and never know the truth, (but you deserve the truth, you don't want to be coddled, huh? huh?)" He's a villain, why would people take everything he says at face value for a message straight from Kishimoto ?
Also, Naruto already punched the hell out of Neji's fate, so I don't see why he'd just accept the Uchiha/Senjuu fate. So he was a little ohnoes about it the first time he heard, so what? He cares more about Sasuke than about Neji and he's seen a lot more dark things since then, so his optimism is a little less blind -- doesn't mean his determination has weakened, too, probably the other way around. Like he's ever going to accept something like that as the way things are. It's a staple of the shounen genre that characters like Naruto make their own way and fuck destiny, and if there's only two bad choices handed to them then they'll come up with a third.
Sasuke will get redeemed. It's not even a question. All those obstacles piling up before them right now? They're not "that's it, end of the road." They're "fuck that, I didn't come so far just so stop halfway through." Of course the difficulty level of the obstacles has to rise to match the level of Naruto's power and determination, otherwise it would get too easy. :p

1: Raikage keeps being hardcore... Sasuke's atomic flowergan keeps being lolfugly... Hm. I'll be more interested in the actual attacks when it's animated and I can watch the prettypretty movements.

3: SAND. I like Sasuke's surprised face. he needs to make them more often. So... Gaara keeps using sand pretty openly. So it wasn't all from Shuukaku then? >.>

Gaara's "there's no need to lose your lives over this" to the samurai... either those specific samurai are very low level, or ninja are just inherently superior, or something. It sounded like it.

6: Raikage keeps AngryBlackMan-ing every single line of dialogue he has. Oh well. He also has lazy black man and... rapping black man, and Karui ... there's some variety. Hm.
Cutting off his own arm! Haaaaardcore. it's like he barely notices the handicap he's taking for the rest of his life just so he can get at Sasuke. That or he's really fucking furious over his little brother being dead... yeeeah, that's probably it. XD If he kept sacrificing body parts in each fight things wouldn't go far. (i kinda hope when killerbee comes back all "lulz trolled ya, i wuz on vacation sry" he kicks him in the head for being such a retard. >__>)
7: Healing! That guy's useful. I wonder if he's stopping the blood loss or actually regrowing it, there was a spoiler he did that D: Weird that the black flames seemed to engulf so much, yet Raikage only lost up to half his forearm. hmm.Now he can totally put a hook on it! X3
Temari has droopy boobs. Damn you Kishimoto, draw her better. DX Her clothes would be pretty neat if you could stop drawing her anatomy like she's a broad guy with balloons stuck on.

Ahh, i'm sad, some spoilers made it sound as if Sasuke wasn't aware that his team still wanted him back, and it would have been BWEE, but seeing it in the manga, it doesn't quite give me that impression. It's more that he won't find what he's looking for on an ideological and life goal point of view. ... hnnn. *sadsadsad*
It's funny how Gaara is totally Naruto's apostle now, and Temari and Kankuro are taking up the doubter, down to earth pessimistic side of things. It's like another Naruto&the rest of the Konoha 11 by proxy.

11: Karin does something plot!related! Yay. I'm still a little bummed that she didn't fight at all, but then again she's not at Sui and Juugo's level and seeing how they ended up, she did the smart thing. Still, it bugged me that for a couple chapters she seemed to be doing nothing but hide. I'm glad she was still looking for their target even when it looked like Sasuke was going to lose.

12: sensor-types are more common than it looked compared how rare they were in the rest of the manga, huh. >__> I'm gonna assume there just happens to be a large concentration of 'em in here because they're more useful in such a situation.

Interesting. In that previous chapter there was a kind of shadow attached to Sasuke, Karin pointing out that she couldn't recognize him, and now once again "he's too cold" and "the power of darkness"... Huh. Makes me wonder if Madara did something, or if Sasuke did something to himself so that he's not really himself anymore, because when Karin notices several times he's acting/feeling unlike himself... huh. It reminds me of Sakura's reaction to curse seal influence!Sasuke in the Forest of Death.
I'll have to read over that arc once it's over, but there are some moments that make me uncomfortable -- not a problem with the manga itself, just the fact it hits my personal squick buttons. But I like this chapter a little more than the next, which was not a BAD chapter but just didn't engage me as much emotionally speaking.
I want to see Mizukage fight at some point. ;__;

Why are we trusting Madara's interpretations of this? Why are we assuming that Kishimoto wrote this and thought, "Fucking signed, bitches!" any more than he agreed with Neji when Neji talked about fate. This only makes sense if you really believe that Kishimoto is using Madara--the manipulative villain--as his mouth piece.

At the very least, he probably can't transform into Shukaku anymore. That's my guess. I wonder what else he can't do.
And Karin ... maybe she can't fight much. Okay, she beats up Suigetsu regularly, so she can a little, but probably not on the level of these guys. I get the feeling that she'd run when overpowered. She's elusive. Which is pretty darn useful. Hard to fight someone you can't get to. Unless you can literally teleport like Madara or something, and I'm still not sure how that works.

Yeah, I gather by now it's familiar and he still knows the jutsu anyway. And we haven't seen him using huge techniques like the desert avalanche thing he did against Kimimaro, it's all been smallish scale so that wouldn't be impossible for a normal guy to produce. i'm just wondering if Kishi will actually give him a plot-impacting drawback or if the "i lost shuukaku!" is just all positive for him. Because turning into shuukaku... it was only a good thing because he didn't really care much whether he came back or stayed sane back then, so losing it isn't that horrible for him.
As for Karin, no, she's not really a fighter, that I know. I have technically no problem with her not being much of a fighter, there's got to be different types. It's just the *trend* of the girl being the one watching from the sidelines powerlessly that I find a little wearying, not Karin specifically. I think i'd have less of a hnnn reaction if, for example, Ino was the one who used meat tank attacks and chouji was the one whose body goes flop when he spies and who can't really do much in an all-out fight either. But compared to some other shonen manga, kishi doesn't do too badly with his women. I just wish he'd do better. -___-

Well. Okay. About Susuanoo. It wasn't covered in flames when Itachi used it, right? So here's what I'm thinking. Sasuke used Amaterasu as a defensive maneuver to, like, eat whatever was being thrown at him. Problem is, amaterasu eats everything, so he summoned susuanoo to block himself from the flames. Make sense? Alright, so if that's really what happened, Sasuke is using two extremely powerful, chakra-draining techniques at once, after being in a fight with a kage that he was losing. Meanwhile, another kage and his two (kickass) siblings have just shown up and are planning to fight him.

yeah, i have a hard time seeing it end in a definitive victory for sasuke. maybe he will manage to buy enough time to run away or something. or maybe be captured... ohh. i mean, he still has danzou as a target and i don't think he cares about getting out of the trap as long as he can off him first, so maybe he held something in reserve for when he deals with him. hmmmmmm.
