I'm pretty sure that most of you will have heard by now, but due to so many rumors that ended up being fake, I didn't want to post about it as long as it wasn't confirmed.
And it is.
THE FILLERS END IN FEBRUARY.
The magazine Jump confirmed. The series is apparently even going to get a new title: Naruto Shippuu-den, or Naruto Hurricane Chronicles, refering to his. er. new schtick. You know, the... thinger. *avoids spoilers liek woah*
... I can't even feel happy yet. ;_; It's just "... ah. Really? ... nice." *sniffle* I think I'm broken. ;____; Or maybe it's the shock. Yeah, that must be it. ;;

By the way, as a side question:
What might be a few good ways for a fanfic writer to keep Sasuke as in-character as they can if the author doesn't have much experience at writing him?

... eek. o_o;; I really don't have a sure-fire way to get at this, because Sasuke is the kind of character I "synch" with the most naturally, so I don't think about it much. (... which can be a bad approach but um yeah.)
One thing that could help is to write a "my Sasuke" list. I'm bad at explaining so this is mine from ages ago; doing one will help you keep your own personal fanon/interpretations straight. You can also extend it to Sasuke in general -- just note down the few "rules" to Sasuke's typical behavior. Where does he stand and how, his body language (tends to stand away from the group, sometimes arms crossed, or hands in his pockets, plays it cool a lot, things like that)
One other thing that really helps the feel of a character is the voice. How does Sasuke talk, with what tone? When does he talk, how much does he talk, does he say what he means or implies it or lies or stuff. One of the tricks I use personally is that, er. I kind of do the voices, so I know what tone would convey what emotion, where it would break the rhythm, what kind of sentences seem neat but wouldn't actually be said out loud without tripping over his tongue and stuff like that.
(Naruto, for example, uses slang, contractions and lots of imaged comparisons. Sakura adds lots of "softeners" like "don't you think so?" or "Ah, um, ohh" or "really, it is" and sentence structures that are made to avoid conflict whenever possible. Sasuke is a blunt sonovabitch who doesn't really like to babble on and on, though he's not a mute either; if something needs to be said, he won't add pretties on it, he'll just say it like he sees it, and without tons of "except in this case" clauses. He can also be rude sometimes, if the other character really is being a boneheaded idiot, but mostly he just doesn't go out of his way to be all that polite. No -san or -sensei from him -- he calls characters by their name and that's it. (I think he called kakashi sensei once or twice in the series, but that's it) Also, he doesn't talk about his feelings, like, EVER -- it's always implied.)
As for the psychology of the beast ohboy, I could write books. But the big rule is "I am not allowed to be weak. So I am not. Ever, ever, ever." When he's shown to be weak so that he can't keep deluding himself, expect a backlash. Deep inside, even if he IS making progress, he's persuaded that it's not enough, and terrified of the fact that it might never be enough. He needs to feel superior to feel safe, otherwise it means he's out of control, and when he's out of control, Bad Things Happen. So he is not. Ever. He doesn't really mind people showing him up in areas that he has no real interest in -- IE, he's smart and knows it, and he's smart enough to do well in battle, so he doesn't care that Sakura is smarter since she's so not competition in anything else that really matters to him. But Naruto's power rivaling his own? SERIOUS BUSINESS. He's supposed to be the one keeping his teammates safe. They're not supposed to be stronger than him. Because then he is not in control anymore yaddayaddayyadda.
... I babbled a lot more than I thought I would. I hope it's helpful anyway and that I didn't go on too long on stuff you already knew. ^^;;;

Actually, I didn't mind at all that you said so much (some of your words were fascinating). In fact, I'm honored that you would take the effort to explain that to me; you are, after all, one of my favorite fanfic authors. It doesn't help that I'm constantly on the lookout for any aspects of Mr. Avenger that I might have left off (since I am always trying to keep him as insanely in-character/close to canon as I can in my writing), so...yeah, this means a lot to me. ^ _ ^
