The Evilness-- epilogue

For poeple who don't know (because we haven't written on that fic in AGES so it's not surprising), this is a part of Teh Evilness (working title XD) thus codenamed because we ([livejournal.com profile] windandwater, [livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko and me) have decided to fit every sexay kink we could find inside one little (only a little over 100 pages)fic, including furries, spanking, hot wax and tentacle sex. Don't try to read it if you haven't read the rest, you wouldn't understand anything and it would probably spoil you to boot. ^^;
Here is where Sera keeps track of the old posts.

(btw Mikke, I think some of 'em were friendslocked in your nonwriting journal, so most people won't be able to read them; maybe you could move them to your new journal? or maybe we can be evil and make latecomers wait until the fic is officially published XD)

yeah, I know, I was writing the epilogue and we haven't even finished scenes in the very middle of the fic. But some of the problems we had with the fic were that we couldn't find an end that fit. Wufei was a smug bastard all along and then Heero decided to angst, and then we realized that the way it was going there would be no happy end, because Heero would let himself die and then Duo would attempt to kill Wufei, or something equally unpleasant and not very good for happily-ever-after 5x1x2 kinky threesomeness.

And seeing as I are teh tired, I haven't even managed to FINISH the stupid epilogue. But I see how to do it; I just can't find the words anymore. I need sleeeeeep... =__=;;;;

Wufei pushed a last time against the river's quick current and ran aground amongst the reeds, on his favorite observation spot. He rested his upper torso on the rough sand, crossing his arms to put his chin on, and let the rest of his body float, closing his eyes to bask in the sunlight and the warm, shallow water as he waited.

He tried not to come too often, but his lake and the maze of underwater tunnels had been thoroughly mapped years ago and there was something invigorating about leaving the dark, safe caves and the stillness of the lake's depths for the biting freshness and the amazing variety of life the rivers offered. And when he decided to let himself be tempted by the outside, he invariably ended up there, upstream of his lake by almost a whole hour of swimming, a little portion of the river that had absolutely nothing special... apart from being just downhill from one particular den.

Sometimes they came to the river and sometimes they didn't. He had no way of knowing. And when they did -- to drink or to wash -- and the wolf tried to convince the cat to swim a little, and they started to splash each other and laugh, and kiss, and sometimes mate, right there on the riverbank, he didn't come out of hiding. He stayed in the reeds, and he watched, and imagined he could still touch.

At least now that it was spring, he could visit. The water had been too cold during winter to let him leave his lair, and the riverbanks had been frozen over in places. He'd spent his time curled up in front of the fire, wishing he could send them blankets and food. At least they could keep each other warm, he used to tell himself, then he would start thinking about how nice it would have been to have them there to keep him warm, and then he made himself sleep because it was better than catching himself forming half-serious plans to capture them again and have them heat up his bed and his blood.

How glad he had been, that day almost two months ago, to hear the Feline's laughter, and the disgruntled tones of the Wolf during one of his restless explorations. How glad he had been, to find them alive, and relatively well-fed, and happy. Heero had been chasing Duo, the agile cat dodging his attempts with an easy grace that left Wufei breathless. The growl in Heero's voice had been belied by the amusement in his eyes. He had never seen them that playful, that... that free.

Of course they wouldn't run and play in chains, he thought morosely. Of course they wouldn't come to love the one who had taken their freedom from them. The only thing he really wanted from them was the one thing he couldn't take. And that knowledge still hurt.

But if he couldn't have them love him and be happy with him, at least he had the next best thing. And some days, he could even convince himself it was enough.

It was almost noon when the sound of quick feet running through the grass woke him up from his light doze. He blinked his eyes open, waiting and hoping-- there! A long rope of coppery hair was dancing and bouncing behind its owner through the woods. It kept dashing right then left, and he wondered what was going on until the rabbit burst through the bushes and on the riverbank. The small animal froze a second as it ran out of cover, and before it could dash off again, Duo pounced. A quick crunch as his sharp teeth closed on his prey's neck, a few seconds of desperate kicking, and the cat straightened up, lifting the dead rabbit over his head.

"HA!!! Told you I could catch it on my own, you stupid dog!!"

Heero came trotting out of the bushes, not looking impressed in the least... and quickly stole Duo's prey. Wufei swallowed a laugh. He didn't want to be noticed.

They started to fight over the rabbit, mock-growling and pawing at each other liberally. Wufei bit his lip. He'd seen them brawl often enough to understand that most time, it was just a kind of foreplay.

They disappeared behind a bush, and he closed his eyes, listening to the sounds they made as they rolled in the grass, imagining.

He missed them. He missed having them in his bed, he missed caressing, penetrating their warm bodies, he missed clashing wills with them. He missed seeing them sleep, curled up around each other. He missed Duo's volatile temper and Heero's mule-headedness. But he had hurt them, and he didn't know how to make that better. He had never been taught any way to make amends in that kind of situation. He had let them go free, but it wasn't enough.

Maybe... he could find gifts for them. They both liked the feel of silk, and-- but no. It would probably remind them of their captivity too much, even assuming that they would accept anything coming from him. And they probably wouldn't eat food they happened to find. Heero didn't like fish anyway. Books? They couldn't read; neither had even shown any interest. Weapons maybe? Perhaps if they saw that he was ready to gift them with a way to defend themselves against him... Perhaps they would understand that he didn't mean any harm.

And then, perhaps not. They were happy right now, living outdoors, together. They didn't seem to care about not having a real bed with silk sheets, or books, or warm baths. They were mammals, not dragons; they didn't hold civilization in such a high regard. They would probably be happier if he just left them alone. If he started trying to court them into tolerating him again, there was a chance they would just pack up and move as far from his rivers and his lake as possible, and he'd never find them again. He'd never know what was happening to them, if they were alive and healthy and happy. And if he scared them into leaving their little den and traveling through rival pack territories, he'd never forgive himself.

They were born to be wild, not to be his pets. He had already been shown that taming them would break them, and he didn't want to damage them further. No, watching from afar would have to be enough.

Sighing, he decided to go now, before he was tempted to interrupt once again.

And then he felt the water ripple against his skin, just barely, totally noiselessly, and turned his head to see two big, darkly furred paws in the water.

'Oh no.'

Heero was standing just a step away from the riverbank, amongst the reeds, watching him.

The Lupine didn't say anything as he stared down at the water dragon. A large part of him wanted to howl, to pounce, to drive the invader away, but that part was also the part that had been forced to submit and he already knew how highly unwise a frontal attack was. Another, smaller part of him wanted to roll over and offer his throat, whimpering, but he silenced it easily. He had been free long enough to restore his pride and his dominance.

He didn't know what to do. So he waited. But the dragon didn't talk, didn't move. Just looked up at him, expressionless.

It was kind of irritating, in fact. Knowing that this wasn't the first time the bastard spied on them, and finally confronting him, and he had nothing to say. Heero growled, annoyed.

The water dragon actually flinched. It was so unexpected that for a second, Heero stopped growling.

Then he started again, because there was still no explanation and suddenly he was angry a lot more than wary and nervous. The growl build and rose into his throat, until it erupted into a vicious snarl. How dare he come here an not even have the decency to explain himself?

Still without a word, Wufei rolled on his side, then on his back, and then, very deliberately, tilted his head back. Heero felt his growl die down slowly as the dragon stayed unmoving, waiting for acknowledgement of his surrender.

"... Why do you keep coming here?" he asked finally, his voice still rough and threatening.

The dragon twitched, and Heero fell into a defensive crouch as he watched his tentacles warily, but Wufei forced himself into relaxation again and the Wolf slowly straightened up.

"You-- knew?"

For a second Heero wondered why it sounded like the stupid son of a lizard was choking. But right now he didn't particularly care. His fur was bristling, his ears flattened back. He kept on watching the dragon closely for the smallest flicker of movement. He was out of range as far as he knew, but he also knew that Wufei knew way too many tricks.

"Feh. Noticed your scent weeks ago. Now answer."

Slowly -- way too slowly, as if deliberately trying not to scare him -- Wufei sat up. He wasn't looking at Heero, though, but kept his eyes down in a way the Canine could only call submissive, and that made him feel weird. Almost weirder than the offering-throat thing. The offering-throat thing was very blatant, and said loudly "Hey! I submit!", but Wufei was no less dangerous on his back than in any other position. But the little signs, like the no-meeting-eyes thing, were a lot subtler, and in the end, a lot more truthful.

"I didn't want to make you uncomfo--"

"Didn't ask what you don't want, asked why you come here."

Heero's tone hadn't been that aggressive, actually, just dry, but Wufei winced anyway.

"To see you. You and Duo."

"... To see us," Heero repeated slowly, frowning.

"Yes. Just see you. Not-- hurt you, or capture you again. Just see you."

Wufei sounded discouraged, almost like he thought Heero wasn't going to believe him. But Heero did, actually; he knew that the lizard had been coming for a while before the Canine even noticed him, and he never tried anything. With his knowledge of ropes and nets, it wouldn't have been hard to lay a trap and capture them unawares.

That didn't mean he was comfortable with the idea of being spied on.

"Why?"

The water dragon looked away, as if searching for words. Heero wasn’t interested in pretty, well crafted sentences that didn't mean anything.

"Why?" he barked, allowing a growl to roll out with his question.

"I miss you two."

It was hard to say who was more surprised by that confession.

"... you miss us."

"Yes," Wufei snapped, some of his haughty, well-bred tones coming back as he scowled at Heero, then looked away again. "I miss you two. I'm bored, that's all. I just didn't realize how much."

Wufei didn't sound that convinced. Heero snorted. "Then why don't you capture us again? Or find yourself other pets to play with?"

He had the pleasure to see the dragon flinch. That was a reaction he would probably never get through actions, but as he had learned in the last months, sometimes words were just more powerful. More painful.

Except he couldn't be cruel to someone who acted all... submissive, even when he had so many reasons to resent him.

"Why don't you?" he replied, just a little softer.

"I don't want other pets, I want you!" Wufei finally snarled back, black eyes narrowed with anger and hurt and -- loss.

"And why aren't you taking us, then?"

The water dragon snorted and one of his tentacles lashed at a fish that had been nibbling on it for the past two minutes. "Apart from the 'stupid dog will let himself die if he's not running wild' matter?"

Heero clearly had the upper hand in that discussion, so he let the jab pass. "Apart from that."

Wufei's shoulders stayed tense a few seconds, then sagged. "You're both miserable in captivity. And when you're miserable, you're boring," he added; he was apparently attempting to put some ice in his voice, but maybe because he was sitting in muddy water, looking quite pitiful with his hair wet and tangled in algae strands, it wasn't working.

"Huh. So you come here and watch us, because...?"

Wufei hissed at him, a sound that held little of his usually carefully civilized tones. "Drop it, dog. I won't bother you anymore." He straightened up and turned away, facing the river.

"I didn't say you could leave, you bastard spawn of a lizard and a slug."

Crouching in a ready position, Heero watched as Wufei whirled around, not even bothering to hide his fury at the insult. But the dragon didn't strike, didn't attempt to get any closer to him.

"What more do you want, bitch? I told you I would leave; do you want me to sign it with my blood?"

Heero smothered his growl. After what he'd just said, being called bitch was actually rather tame. Except for the memories of being mounted as such, of course. The stupid lizard was more experienced at words warfare than he was.

"When did I say I wanted you to leave?" he asked, arching an eyebrow and fighting to keep his cool. He knew how the dragon worked, he'd gotten lots of time to work out how Wufei could push their buttons so easily. Looking calm, unconcerned and slightly mocking seemed to be his method of choice. Heero could do that.

Ha. He'd caught the bastard out of balance.

... and that is all so far. bwahahaha. now me bed. nitenite.
