Progress??

I did make my soup this morning! It's okay. Needs more stuff in it, I think, but it's got what I had in, and it's not bad!

I also did manage to get out of bed and do some more paint stripping! I think this board needs a third go-over, but at least I got through the second pass today! Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to do that, and start on another board. Will depend on the weather as much as anything else, I think, I am. Extremely unlikely to go out and do some while it's raining, even if I'm technically undercover. Too cold!!!

Anyway, bed now! Yes! >:

Well I guess I technically DID finish Friday's to-do list...

Yeah, today was also. Not great. Didn't get out of bed until almost dark again, etc. etc. etc. I did at least go and get food, though, so that's something. I think I'll put soup on tomorrow morning, have that for dinner. Yes. I probably should've bought some more veggies to hide in it, but I forgot until now, whoops!

Sibling will be back over tomorrow, which is at least an external motivation to get the fuck out of bed and do stuff!

Steampunk Double Feature

I'm currently reading not one but two steampunk novels: Natasha Pulley's The Lost Future of Pepperharrow and Priest's Stars of Chaos (Sha Po Lang).

Steampunk is a genre that I want to like more than I do; in fact, the only steampunk novel I've read that I truly enjoyed enough to buy a copy is Pulley's The Watchmaker of Filigree Street. Here's hoping these two can be added to that very short list!

Welp x2

It was in fact NOT better today. It was actually worse. /o\

But! I did FINALLY take a fucking shower! It was at like 10:30pm, but I did finally take one!

Not sure exactly WHY my brain is bouncing off basic fucking hygiene so hard at the moment - probably something to do with it being cold, but it's not just that - but it really, really is. :/

But at least I've taken it now, so I can go food shopping tomorrow!!! >: The most important thing! (Here is a thing I have learned today: green beans don't really go in instant noodles. Texture is not quite right. Still, a vegetable is a vegetable...)

Updates

1) Intro to Sociology was successfully dropped, not long after I got home from taking the first class. That setup (the extremely packed schedule plus a super strict teacher) was not for me.

2) I've had some mild financial bullshit with college, but hopefully it's well on its way to being all sorted out.

3) All of my Speech homework for this week? I accidentally did last week 😂 Honestly, much better than the other way around.

4) In less college related news, I finally got my car back from the shop 😭 It took more than a week to get my internal fans fixed, but I am not dealing with summer around here without AC. Especially for thirty minute drives and little to no shade parking.

5) I finally finished properly outlining my first story for Sot69 this year 👀 I am pleased with what I've come up with and how I'm getting the characters into position! I'm really looking forward to actually writing it now 😃

Welp

I did... absolutely nothing on my to-do list today. I didn't even get out of bed until like. 5? It was almost dark, I know that much. SIGH.

I did at least apply for some jobs, which I've gotten into the habit of and so didn't put on my to-do list, but still. Fuck executive dysfunction, what a pain. Not surprised though, this is generally how it goes. :/

I HAVE to go shopping tomorrow though, I'm out of uh. Most foods. So hopefully that'll give me a kick in the ass to do other things, too. Hopefully!!!

I did do some knitting though, almost done with the switch cover! Just gotta bind off and then probably block it. Never had to block anything before, so that'll be an adventure! (Mama blocked the shawl I gave her. I was gonna do it, but she had it washed and blocked out before I could even say I was gonna! XD;;;) First thing will, of course, be finding the mats! But I do know where pins are, so that's something...

it is good that I never wanted to be a travel agent, because I would SUCK at it

Trip planning is HARD, you know?

I will be leaving on either Sunday or Monday on an approximately 2-week trip. The main point is a gathering of fandom friends in western Alberta, but I have planned my approach so as to have time to do One Thing in Winnipeg (Manitoba) the afternoon of my first travel day, and One Thing in Regina (Saskatchewan) the afternoon of my second travel day. Then the gathering, and on Sunday the 20th I will head to Drumheller to visit the Royal Tyrell Museum.

I THINK I have my itinerary roughed out for the following week.

-Monday 7/21, drive south across the Canada/US border to Glacier National Park, hike an easy trail

-Tuesday 7/22, drive west to Yakima, WA; no stops planned

-Wednesday 7/23, drive to Olympic National Park, hike an easy trail, look for banana slugs, etcetera, then overnight in Forks or Oil City

-Thursday 7/24, drive south on US-101 and stop at some point to get out and dabble my feet in the Pacific Ocean, before heading inland and stopping short of Portland, OR, probably in Beaverton; might also visit Tillamook Creamery if time permits

-Friday 7/25, drive to Boise, ID, possibly stopping at a winery or two along the Columbia River valley (more research needed)

-Saturday 7/26, drive from Boise, ID to Bozeman, MD, skirting the western edge of Yellowstone en route; might stop for photos but more likely will just drive on through

-Sunday 7/27, drive from Bozeman, MD to probably Dickinson, ND, with a stop en route to sightsee in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park and hopefully see some bison and/or prairie dogs

-Monday 7/28, head home to the Twin Cities; no stops planned

This feels generally doable to me. None of the driving days are excessively long, none of the activities are excessively strenuous, and I will return home before August. Now I have to research national park admission policies and also start making motel reservations. Argh.

It cold :(

Still cold! Dislike! (I mean sure it's the middle of fucking winter but that does not make me like it any more. So gross.)

But! I did set up the long skirting boards in the carport - didn't get one fully done, but I DID start with the longest one and it's ALMOST done, I just kinda ran out of light. :/ (Again, with the winter! Boo!) Sibling got the drum sanding done today, too, which is excellent. :3 Not gonna rent the next sander until next week, so I'll have some quiet days which is nice. (Do need to go in and vacuum and mop, just to try and keep some dust control going, but hey. That's not actually too hard.)

Tentative plan is to have at least all the paint stripping done by Monday - I DEFINITELY want to start painting early next week - but we'll see how it goes! I also need to go food shopping again, so I'mma try and do that tomorrow since it's not the weekend? Ugh, I should have showered tonight, whoops. Too late now! Guess I'll do it after breakfast.

Fuck this room, seriously.

Very Much Dislike this room - it's drafty as fuck. This isn't helped by needing to have the door open enough to let the cats come in and out as they please, of course. (There is. So much whining if I don't. Also I don't want Sushi to figure out how to open THIS door, TOO, since he seems to have forgotten.) But even when I'm awake and alert enough to have the door closed and just open/close it when needed, the second I turn the heater off the temperature PLUMMETS. :( :( :(

Anyway hopefully it'll just be a couple of weeks, though today went... uh. Well let's just say Sibling spit the dummy in the late afternoon. To be fair the MAIN thing that went wrong was the massive rented sander was uh. Busted. So that involved a corporate phone tree-style phone call and going back and swapping it for a different one. None of which is Sibling's fault, and also extremely annoying! BUT the second thing that went wrong is just... one of those things that happens... and it got me yelled at, pmuch because I was there I think?? Which is. Not fun. This sort of shit is why we're not really friends! :/

I had a couple of things I wanted some advice on, but uh THAT didn't happen, but I DID finish stripping a couple of boards, and sanded back all but one of the ones that've been done. (That last one is one of the things I wanted advice on! There's a nail slightly sticking out and I'm not sure if it's enough to wreck the sandpaper, but I also couldn't get it to go in further. Which might be a me problem! Thus, advice!)

I'm thinking I might see if we've got a decent enough dropcloth and do the long ones in the carport, though. They're too long for both the table and the workbench, so... Anyway, tomorrow task! I'mma go nap now yes. >:

A Bit About Me

I haven't done one of these in a while and now seems like a good time. Stolen from [personal profile] a_natural_beauty, original by [personal profile] sound_of_silence

1. First Name: Amy, although all of my friends call me Nan irl.

2. Age: 39

3. Location: PNW baybeeeeee, specifically Seattle.

4. Occupation: funemployed while I figure out what my silly little brain is doing.

5. Significant Other: I'm married to [personal profile] cypher, also known in this journal as Will. We've been together since 2019 and got married this past April! I love them deeply. <3

6. Kids: None!

7. Brothers/Sisters: My sister from my mom's first marriage! I have three brothers and a sister from my dad's first marriage but we're not close; that sister died and I found out four years later. :\

8. Pets: Four cats: Penelope, a tuxedo; Spicy, a tortie; Waffle, a tortie; Nugget, a void. And my baby lil dog, Selphie, who I adopted when she was 5 weeks old and she's now 12 years old, omg, how does time fly like this? ;o;

9. List the 3 biggest things going on in your life:
3 - [community profile] battleshipex! I'm extremely excited to make this my entire personality for a while, lol.

2 - Homesteading! I thought I was done starting new things, then I started (indoors) 18 rattlesnake pole beans, 12 cranberry beans, 6 Sadie's horse beans, about a million of two different kinds of amaranths, and a bunch of zinnias, lol. Our tomatoes are loaded down with both green fruits and flowers, the 8 Sadie's horse beans that are already out are doing wonderfully (and have little bean pods forming aaaaaaahhhh), we've been eating zucchini with dinner almost every night this week, and the pumpkins are slowly growing little guys. ;3;

1 - Dealing with this ADHD diagnosis and mental health stuff. Which is going okay! Maybe!

10. Where and for what did you go to school? I dropped out of high school and got my GED, then went to a trade school and got my associate's in applied technology (a hopelessly dated degree lol), worked for a while, then went a private college and got my bachelor's in art. I only went to the private college because, as a non-traditional student (I was 26 when I started), my tuition and fees were basically cut in half.

11. Parents: My dad passed away of cancer eight years ago. I miss him every day. My mom is around and in pretty poor health (breast cancer); we live on opposite US coasts but talk almost every day.

12. Who are some of your closest friends? Will is my very bestest friend. My niece C is a very close friend, although she lives several states away. My cats and dogs, because who said friends had to be the same species. My immediately, physical circle is pretty quiet, and I will not lie, I am terribly lonely a lot of the time lmaooo.

Busy busy...

Today's Big Task was... I moved my computer! Ugh, what a pain. WHAT A PAIN. Hate. But it's all here, and while it's not as comfortable a set up as in my room I DO get to use a comfier chair, which is nice. Shoulders are already complaining though, so hopefully I can move back soon... I suspect I'll be doing a lot more crafting and playing pokemon while I'm in here, which isn't actually a bad thing.

Also gotta find the fucking allen key for the monitor stand; one of the joints is loose and in the new config that's uh making it Difficult. Monitor's being propped up at the moment but it's still not ideal, so yeaaaah. Couldn't find the actual allen key sets easily though and I was just kinda. Done. So that's a tomorrow task.

Also cleaned the chook coop and did some more work on the skirting boards! Gonna try and get a lot more done on the skirting boards tomorrow, maybe strip back one of the BIG ones. A little worried at how long those are gonna take, not gonna lie...

Anyway, now is time for sleeps! Couch in here is uh. Not even vaguely as comfortable as mine, so not really looking forward to finding out what the state of my back will be in the morning, but Oh Well. Might get some extra cushions out of my room tomorrow, will see how it goes. Already know I want to get a lamp, I forgot there wasn't one in here already.

C'est une jolie histoire quand même... mais la narration est pénible. Oui ok c'est normal d'être autocentrée à trois ans, mais cumulé avec l'attitude de l'auteure adulte, not seeing you beating the autism allegations.

Cute story, gorgeous animation, nerve wracking narration. I'm so fed up with Amélie Nothomb as an author, and yeah the character based on her is so fucking self-centered and haughty!! there's being a child and not knowing better, and being outright unsufferable.
