Like I said to someone on AO3, I don't think all genderbending stories should have a character that's identical save for their physical bits (in most people biology, social pressures and education DO make a difference), but I really don't see Heero as very gendered, or as having been taught gendered behaviors and mindsets, just the kind of risk-taking, take-charge stuff that might be confused with macho badassery, so boy or girl I don't think there should be a big difference in his resulting personality. ... Also it's way funnier like that. If, say, Wufei were a girl I think she'd have a lot more issues with her feminity, and so even if she tried to behave as a man ought to there would also be a huge part of "against-feminity" and guilt and a touch of longing in it. Whereas Heero just behaves like Heero does because that's the way he/she/it/they is and that's it. XD
